Social Media: Use It Or Lose It

Social media is a versatile tool that caters to a wide range of purposes, and its uses can vary greatly from one individual to another. Broadly speaking, we can categorize the different uses of social media into two groups: as a tool for earning or as a distraction and entertainment.

TOOL FOR EARNING

We can use social media to advance our finances in many ways. Same as how there are many ways to advance in the real world. In a sense, social media is nothing more than an extension of the real world - only with a much larger reach, much faster. This, of course, makes all the difference.

As with anything, this all hinges on the product. Some products market themselves, while others are so bad that you fail regardless of how hard you try. So, I am not saying that social media prowess is a scapegoat for bad/rushed design. But, it can be the difference between exposure and nothingness.

👑 Social media marketing is king, for those that know how to use it.

Apart from using social media as a means to reach other people, you can also use the various platforms themselves as tools to generate revenue. How? By creating content on said platforms. Some platforms pay more than others (for example TikTok pays next to nothing unless your page is super big) but getting more eyes on your content almost always results in sponsorships. These more than make up for the lackluster revenue.

👑 In the modern age, content is king, for those that know how to create it.

Finally retention. Being a bleep in the night sky is not impressive. One-hit wonders are rarely remembered. And to make an actual change in your life, you have to understand how to use the various platforms. Their algorithms, their tags, and their sharing system. They all slightly differ from one another. Remaining in the public eye is just as much of a skill as appearing on the stage for the first time.

👑 Relevance is king, for those that have yet to make themselves the fool.

DISTRACTION AND ENTERTAINMENT

You could use it for productivity and generating a better life for yourself. Or you could use it for the total opposite. Social media is like a sharp knife. Useful for making food and as a tool, but deadly to the uninitiated.

Many people have fallen victim to the content cycle. They spend hours upon hours just mindlessly scrolling through endless feeds. Boosting their dopamine until their benchmark for enjoyment gets higher and higher. Forcing them to watch even more. A vicious cycle.

There is a difference between being a user and an abuser. Social media is a tool and used sparingly and effectively could have a positive impact on your life and the lives of those around you. However, be too frivolous with it, and it can take you down a content vortex that could potentially ruin your life.

CONCLUSION

The internet has made it very hard for aspiring people to handle distractions. In the past, when someone was ambitious, he was distraction-free. Now, your fingertips can lead you to places most of humanity's history never knew existed. It requires restraint, discipline, something that is more and more lacking today.

Nobody said it was easy, but it is our job to work hard and live with the results. If we just give in to temptation then we are no different than the animals we have caged up in the zoos. We have a responsibility to ourselves and the ones that love us to try out best. And most times, if a person truly tries their best, it works out for the better. 🙂

We could either be used by this new technology. Let it drain us of our energy and dopamine. Or we could use it. Shape it with our will to serve us. Help us. There are many traps and pitfalls in this new digital world, and being able to navigate them could mean the difference between a life of regrets and a life of fulfillments.

Thank you for stopping by.
