The girl called Esther
Esther, a young dark charming girl about the age of 16 had just gotten admission into the prestigious University of Benin to study a spectacular yet challenging course, she was so excited that she got admission and was less bothered she didn’t get the course she initially applied for. After successfully completing her clearance stage and having gotten a space in the school hostel, she started packing her stuff, her sister had helped her get a few things she needed from the market. Throughout the night before she left for school, she couldn’t sleep.
She had a lot going through her mind, she was going to start taking care of herself and live with total strangers in the hostel, she also thought about making new friends although she had met a few from when she was doing clearance and she was even chatting with her new friend ‘Toyin’ who happened to be in the same department with her and they shared their fears and excitement together, Toyin was also moving to the school hostel the next day.
Esther and Toyin became best of friends, they cooked, ate, read and attended lectures together, they were virtually everywhere together. After some time Esther had made new friends with the help of her cousin at a higher level and they later became her reading partners and they went to night classes together. With time she was very close to one guy called Matthew who introduced her to school politics and helped her through her campaign to become the department’s financial secretary in her second year and welfare officer in her hostel in her third year, she enjoyed being a politician and she was doing so well in her academics despite being involved in politics.
There was a quest for her to balance her academics, politics, and her love life. Was she even ready to be in love? Was she really attracted to anyone? Won’t it affect her academics? These were the questions running through her mind and she concluded it wasn’t time yet to be in love knowing how toxic and time demanding relationships can be, she would rather finish first with good grades.
Then life happens, the normal university trouble
Now in her finals, Esther was doing well academically without carryovers, she was almost certain of graduating that year of course but then she had this lecturer who suddenly picked interest in her, he would send someone to come to call her to see him immediately in his office not minding if she’s receiving lecture at that time. He also happened to be the HOD of her department. So every time he called or sent someone to call her, she would report to his office, she kept missing classes, compulsorily followed him to functions and all. The first semester ended and she did her best.
The second semester had just begun, she didn’t choose his course because he was taking an optional course and she had made up her mind to start avoiding him after seeking advice from her friends in higher classes. Not long her phone was stolen and he couldn’t reach her directly, only through her friend Vicky, so he couldn’t bug her so much. Esther was done with her project and defending it too, now it was time to submit her project for HOD’s signature LOL.
She summoned the courage to go to the HOD’s office and he asked why she had disappeared, she explained she had been busy, he acted like he understood and started convincing her to allow him to sleep with her and he would ensure Esther graduates with a second class upper, she made him understand she was already a second class upper student which angered him, then he moved on to assure her she would get an A in her course but unfortunately for him, she didn’t take his course that semester.
She pleaded with him that she was a virgin and should please just sign her project and let her go. He refused at first but after much pleading, he signed and let her go. She bagged a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy (second class upper division), and after a year, she served her fatherland and works with a prestigious company now.
Brave Esther😏
