Former US attorney joins Binance as deputy general counsel
Despite the crucial stage that we are currently experiencing in the crypto industry where investors are losing millions of dollars to dip and crypto exchange platforms losing their users, Binance has taken the opportunity to hire their first deputy general counsel and the person is Joshua Eaton who was also a former deputy US attorney of Northern California.
The purpose of Binance employing Eaton is for him to handle any legal affairs they may have because he has a good experience when it comes to legal affairs and personally, I believe Binance are kind of scared of any legal actions that users might take due to the dip. Aside from legal affairs, Eaton is also to support Binance in other activities like investigations that may arise, law enforcement and global compliance.
Joshua Eaton is actually the first deputy general counsel but not the first person Binance has hired to help protect their company, they had previously hired three agents who once worked with Internal Revenue Service’s Criminal Investigation (IRS-CI) and they were placed in different positions in which they could handle very well. One was Amiad Qaqish, who made the director of global suspicious activity report, the other was Tigran Gambaryan, made the vice president of global intelligence and lastly Matthew Price was appointed as senior director of investigations. They were all employed at the end of last year.
In an announcement that Binance made for the main reason why they employed Joshua Eaton, was because of the record that he kept when he was still the deputy US attorney of Northern California. Joshua helped the district solve and catch many scammers, hackers, fraudsters and those who were into any illegal activities to abuse the blockchain technology and he also partnered with Internal Revenue Service’s Criminal Investigation (IRS-CI) in solving other crimes.
After being employed Joshua Eaton released a statement and also Hon Ng, general counsel at Binance also released a statement.
Joshua Eaton said: “During my time at the US attorney’s office, I became interested in blockchain technology and crypto and discovered how important it is to prevent bad actors from abusing this important, legitimate emerging technology for corrupt personal gain. I decided to join Binance because of its commitment to this mission as well as its track record in collaboration with law enforcement driven by transparency, integrity and protection of users. I am excited to be a member of this brilliant, passionate, and mission-driven team."
Hon Ng, general counsel at Binance, said: “The legal team at Binance is further strengthened by the dynamism and experience that Josh brings to our continuous efforts to protect users and manage risks. Josh was instrumental in his leadership role while in government, developing its standard-bearing ethics and compliance practices, guiding it through some of the most sensitive and complex issues facing any government organisation, and supporting its growth into one of the preeminent federal prosecutors’ offices in the United States.”
