BATTLE MAGE SECRETS Lost Legendaries: Katrelba Gobson uses Born Again to become the ultimate warrior

Ahoy, welcome to my next Battle Mage Secrets post.

This week the featured ruleset is Lost Legendaries. It means that no Legendary Monsters can be used in the battle at all. It only applies to the Monsters though, so you are still able to choose a Legendary Summoner.

You can recognise the ruleset with this icon.

The battle I'm sharing with you for this post is from the Gauntlet Wild Bronze Invitational Tournament against szerer.

Here is a picture of our initial lineup.

Battle Rules

This was a battle with a 53 Mana Cap. The Water, Earth, Life and Death Elements were available. The battle had 3 rulesets which were:

  • Born Again: All Monsters have the Rebirth ability.
  • FiveAlive: Up to Five Units can be used.
  • Lost Legendaries: Legendary Monsters may not be used in battles.

Battle Lineup

I often like to play with Magic attack Monsters, and since this is a battle in Wild with Water allowed that could be what I'd play. Although I wouldn't be able to use Ruler of the Seas due to the Lost Legendaries ruleset. My opponent may be expecting a Magic heavy lineup and go anti-magic though. So I decide I'll use Lobb Lowland to use Katrelba Gobson. With the Born Again ruleset she could potentially get 2 Bloodlust triggers per enemy Monster and become really strong!

At the front of my lineup I place Flesh Golem as he has some high Health and the Heal ability so he could stay alive for a bit.

Up next I'll bring Arkemis the Bear to give some Armour to my whole team. When they get resurrected from Born Again they'll be at 1 Health but they'll also gain that 2 Armour again.

After that I have Katrelba Gobson that I mentioned earlier. Just having her isn't enough Sneak attack damage though for this idea so I also bring Sand Worm up next.

I finish off the team with Mycelic Slipspawn to have a Taunt in the team and redirect my opponent's backline damage towards it to help my Flesh Golem out for a bit too.

Battle Analysis

Alright it looks like my opponent did indeed expect a Magic heavy lineup on my team as they used Immortalis to give the Void ability to their whole team and on top of that the Mushroom Seer too with the Silence ability to reduce my Magic attackers damage by 1. They also brought Mycelic Slipspawn to redirect my damage and keep their Grund out of harm for a while.

Round 1

Flesh Golem hits Grund for 2 damage.
Katrelba hits Mycelic Slipspawn for 2 damage, then triggers Double Strike and deals another 2 damage.
My Mycelic Slipspawn hits theirs, but due to Silence and Void ends up dealing 0 damage.
Grund hits my Flesh Golem's Armour and destroys it. Then triggers Double Strike but ends up missing.
Sand Worm hits Mycelic Slipspawn for 5 damage bringing its Health down to 2.
Their Mycelic Slipspawn hits mine for 2 damage to its Health. The Shatter ability also destroys its Armour.
Mushroom Seer hits my Mycelic Slipspawn for 2 damage.
Suidae Shaman spends this turn charging his attack.
Goblin Psychic Heals their Grund for 2 Health back to full, then hits my Mycelic Slipspawn for 2 damage.

That's the end of round 1. Here is what our lineups look like right now.

Round 2

Flesh Golem hits Grund again for 2 damage.
Katrelba Gobson hits and kills Mycelic Slipspawn. Triggering her Bloodlust so she gets +1 Melee attack, +1 Speed, +1 Armour and +1 Health.
Their Mycelic Slipspawn gets resurrected from the Born Again ruleset.
Katrelba Gobson triggers her Double Strike and attacks and kills the Mycelic Slipspawn a second time. Triggering Bloodlust again for another +1 to all her stats.
My Mycelic Slipspawn tries to attack Grund but still on 1 Magic attack against the Void ability so deals no damage.
Grund hits my Flesh Golem for 3 damage, triggers Double Strike and hits Flesh Golem for 3 damage again.
Sand Worm attacks Suidae Shaman for 5 damage.
Mushroom Seer attacks my Mycelic Slipspawn for 2 damage.
Suidae Shaman has readied its attack and deals triple damage now to my Mycelic Slipspawn so 6 damage! Although my Mycelic Slipspawn was down to 2 health now so that readied attack was an overkill. My Mycelic Slipspawn dies.
My Mycelic Slipspawn gets Resurrected from the Born Again ruleset.
Goblin Psychic Heals Grund for 2 Health again back to full Health. Then attacks and kills my Mycelic Slipspawn for good.

This round is over now. We both lost our Mycelic Slipspawn in it, but no other Monsters died yet. Here is the current lineup.

Round 3

This time Katrelba Gobson goes first in the round because of the Bloodlust triggers she now has more Speed than my Flesh Golem.
Katrelba Gobson attacks and kills the Suidae Shaman. Triggering her Bloodlust to gain another +1 to all stats.
Suidae Shaman is Resurrected because of the Born Again ruleset.
Katrelba Gobson activates her Double Strike ability to attack a 2nd time, killing the Suidae Shaman again and this time for good. Which triggers her Bloodlust ability again for another +1 to all stats!
Flesh Golem Heals himself for 3 Health, then attacks Grund for 2 damage.
Grund attacks Flesh Golem for 3 damage, then triggers his Double Strike ability and attacks again for another 3 damage which is exactly enough to kill my Flesh Golem.
Flesh Golem gets Resurrected from the Born Again ruleset.
Sand Worm attacks and kills Goblin Psychic.
Goblin Psychic gets Resurrected from the Born Again ruleset.
Mushroom Seer attacks and kills my Flesh Golem for good.
Goblin Psychic has to skip its turn this round because it "used" the Resurrect ability from Born Again.

That's the end of the round. Here is a picture of our current lineups.

Round 4

Katrelba Gobson starts the round by killing Goblin Psychic for good. This triggers her Bloodlust ability again for another +1 to all stats.
She activates her Double Strike ability to attack a 2nd time, this time targeting the Mushroom Seer and killing it. Triggering Bloodlust once again for another +1 to all stats.
Mushroom Seer gets Resurrected from the Born Again ruleset.
Arkemis the Bear attacks Grund for 3 damage.
Grund attacks Arkemis the Bear destroying its Armour. Then triggers its Double Strike ability to attack again and deal 3 damage to Arkemis the Bear's Health.
Sand Worm attacks and kills the Mushroom Seer for good.

That's the end of round 4, here is a picture of our lineups.

Round 5

In the last lineup picture you can see how high Katrelba's stats have grown from all the Bloodlust triggers. Grund won't even be able to survive a single hit from her now!

So yeah this round it's just Katrelba doing her thing. She attacks and kills Grund, which triggers Bloodlust for another +1 to all her stats.
Grund gets Resurrected from the Born Again ruleset.
Just like before Katrelba still has her Double Strike to launch a 2nd attack so she of course kills Grund a 2nd time, triggering Bloodlust one last time and ending the battle!

Was My Strategy Successful?

Oh yeah my strategy was definitely a great success! I properly assumed that my opponent would expect me to play a Magic heavy team and by assuming they'd expect that I built a way different team. A team with Katrelba Gobson and Sand Worm to deal serious Sneak attack damage. Making use of that Born Again ruleset to potentially gets those Bloodlust triggers really going.
Even if Katrelba didn't get the initial kill it would be fine. Like if Sand Worm would've killed the Mycelic Slipspawn it would still serve as a Bloodlust for Katrelba because it would've been Resurrected to 1 Health allowing Katrelba to kill it in the next round.

Conclusion

Having my Mycelic Slipspawn keep most of the enemy team busy for 2 rounds really helped to keep my frontline alive. With my frontline staying alive it really allowed Katrelba Gobson and Sand Worm to deal some heavy damage to the backline of my opponent. It also allowed Katrelba Gobson to grow really strong to the point where she could easily take care of the Grund at the end of the battle.

That's it for my Battle Mage Secrets challenge this week. Thank you for reading!

I'm a bit sad about the new change to Wild league with the Wild Pass. I get that they're trying to implement this to stop bot farms. But it would've been nice if players with for example KYC to show they're a human would just get this Wild Pass. Because I don't think bot farms would be able to KYC all their accounts? If I'm wrong about that feel free to let me know.
