Splinterlands Art Contest

Here’s my portrait of “Lira the Dark” which I drew for Splinterlands Art contest.
This time I took a lot of pictures of the progress :D I think this piece took more time than my other entries. Only the background itself took more than 1 hour!
White pen for the highlight in the eyes and on earrings. I also used paper cutter to create those highlights on the hair.
One thing I guess I haven’t mentioned before is the magic of white pencil :D after coloring the whole face, I use white pencil to blend the colors(when we do so, the skin tone becomes lighter so we need to color all over again) by doing this the skin becomes more smooth and natural. However, I only do this for light skin tones.

I think you did an amazing job with this one. The fine details really make this one stand out along with your vibrant coloring. I would be curious to know if you have ever experimented with adding any ink as a final touch layer for detailing and outlining at the end? Keep up the great work!
That’s very kind of you~ I’m really glad you liked it.^^ Yeah I’ve tried it before.
I’ve used a fine liner pen for detailing but I’m not a fan of doing it because it doesn’t go very well together with the colored pencils(especially photo realism works). I think it mostly depends on the drawing style. However, sometimes I use it, for instance: (this drawing: small part on her neck, Medusa drawing: the snake’s scale’s details). For more cartoony style drawings I don’t mind detailing or outlining with finer liner pens, it makes it cool though.
I agree that sometimes the lines don't work with photo-realism. However, some line work in the details can make things pop out more or add some more depth... kinda like what you mentioned about using the white pencil as a blender and coloring another layer on top for light-toned skin. I was just curious. THanks for the response.
Yeah I totally agree with you. Sometimes it really helps ^^
And in my experience... sometimes it's the death nail in an artwork that took me so long to create and then i kill it with some ink that didn't belong. It's a delicate balance... hahaha
Of course 😁 it’s a little bit risky. We spend lots of time on our works and then with a small line booooom😁… however, some mediums really work together. Since I like mixed media works probably will try them later.
I find myself oftentimes holding my breath while i work. I think it's the tension of not wanting to Blow the whole thing up! hahaha
