Wednesday Walk to Visit the Biggest Museum in North Sumatra
Hello everyone,
Today is an exciting Wednesday, after 18 years ago I went to the North Sumatra Museum for the last time in the city of Medan, to be precise when I was in elementary school and had a field trip with my classmates. I was in 4th grade at the time, and it was really exciting at that time.
This museum is not far from my house, only 30 minutes by motorbike. But this museum is very close to the elementary school when I was little. At that time it seemed like this museum was very small and not as big as this.
The museum has changed a lot over the last 18 years. I still remember very well that all the artifacts and exhibits were only inside the building, but now it looks like the courtyard beside the museum is used for some large items and artifacts, which can survive outdoors.
In the past I learned a lot from the field trips I did, but now I have forgotten a lot, I don't even remember at all. This time I was amazed by how much information I re-read on the small writings on the exhibits. We were followed by a guide who accompanied us only on the 1st floor. He said all the items in this museum were relics of antiquity that were well cared for and guarded by the museum and the government.
One of the highlights of all the items here is the Makara statue. This statue is a mythical animal in the form of an elephant and also a sea animal (fish), he said this statue was found in the village of Binanga, Karo Regency. Well, the name of this Sumatran museum is 'Building Arca Museum'. ARCA which means statue, was inspired by the many statues found, so it is known as the North Sumatra Sculpture Museum.
Not only statues, there are many items on display in this building, such as miniature clothes and traditional houses from the North Sumatra region, photographs and face paintings of the Governors of North Sumatra, and also jars from ancient times. There is also a chest or miniature of the Batak traditional tomb that you can see originally in the Samosir area, Lake Toba.
Well, I also want to show you something interesting about the famous Batak traditional myth, namely the sigale-gale statue. This statue is said to be able to live and move itself magically on a certain night. This statue will be moved by a magical power accompanied by traditional Batak music and entertain the residents in ancient times. You don't have to go all the way to Samosir, you can see the miniatures in this museum. But, if you want to see magic from sigale-gale, it's not wrong to go to Samosir anyway.
In the courtyard of the museum, there is a new building made by the museum for theater exhibitions for people who want to use it to perform a performance, be it wayang kulit, theater, poetry and music. Provided by the government as a place to express art for anyone who wants to display a work.
So, this is a very fun wednesday walk..
See you the next time hive friends!

Thanks for joining Wednesday Walk :), I truly enjoy exploring the world virtually each Wednesday seeing walks from all around the globe and feeling I am there and experiencing it all myself, such as I did in your post just now :)
The last time I came to the museum when I was 10 years old, a lot had changed and made me reminisce a little about playing and studying with my elementary school friends.
its great when one visits a place after so long brings back lots of memories :)
