Rafting on the Tangkahan River

Hello everyone,
At this fairly old age, I want to enjoy a happy life. One of my joys is doing a lot of adventure activities that are adrenaline pumping. Last week, my friend engage me and my husband to go rafting on one of the big rivers in North Sumatra, Indonesia.

If you've ever heard of Tangkahan, then this is the right place to do rafting. The river is so big with the water discharge that is so heavy that it is one of the right places for rafting. We started the trip from the city of Medan which is 94 km from my house, with a distance of 2 hours 48 minutes.

With careful preparation, we entrusted the rafting activity this time with one of the travel organizers, you can see it on Instagram @tangkahan_ . I recommend this travel organizer because hospitality is so friendly and kind to us. They promise all activities during rafting in a structured manner without disappointing.

Before doing the rafting activities, we take to several interesting spots, one of which was this long bridge. But we were only allowed to take pictures of the bridge without having to cross it. Because this bridge is weathered on the supporting wood and is also very slippery. Take a moment to take pictures on this pretty beautiful bridge, while looking at some of the trees around the forest.

Well, we also don't forget to rest after walking 3 km from the drop location and car park. We are provided with some small snacks that can be enjoyed while drinking coffee. After that, we were given safety jackets and paddles to use when rafting. I took the opportunity to feel the cold river water, even though today the color of the river water is not good, because of the rain for several days which mixed the soil and sand from the mountains and made the color cloudy, the water is still very clean and fit for use.

We use tires that are tied with very strong ropes, this allows us to sit on the tires and are given support for seats. The guide said, don't be afraid of makeshift tires, because these tires are very strong to support us all. Even though it was scary at first, but over time I got used to this situation. I still use sunglasses and a hat to anticipate the hot sun. But, today's weather is really very friendly and we can enjoy this trip very well and fun.

This is our guide, his name is Christian who will accompany this trip all day, he doesn't use a safety jacket because he can swim, while I'm still very afraid of fast river water. By the way, Cristian said that the Tangkahan river water is not too deep, only 2 to 3 meters from the riverbed, but the swift water is very dangerous if you are not good enough at swimming.

You can see, the water in this river forms 2 colors, because there are several sources of water from different mountains. It looks so amazing because the water looks like it's parting, it's the first time I've seen anything like this. The beauty of nature is so very alluring, because of that nature never deceives humans. Nature's creation is so perfect, therefore humans should be grateful.

We did rafting for 2 hours, the journey was really long, it even made my legs sore because I had to hang on the tires. Seeing around nature that is so perfect makes me have to be grateful for God's creation. After rafting, we were invited to ride on the jeep to go up to the gathering point. It was quite far and made me almost freeze to death, because the wind was so strong it made my wet clothes dry. But this trip is quite enjoyable, even very enjoyable. This is my first experience rafting on a fast and big river. This really stimulates my adrenaline, I think I like this activity, even though I have to walk up in the forest to get to the river that we will go through for this rafting.

See you the next time hive friends!

Parts of that river look scary. People tell me that most rivers in Indonesia have crocodiles.

I have no idea what you mean by 'old age', but you definitely don't look old 🙂 Either way, it's good to hear that you decided to live a happy life!

I would probably never go rafting as it scares me to death and I'm not so good at swimming, but it looks like you had a lot of fun. This is indeed an adventure which spikes your adrenaline levels 🙂

Such a nice trip, if camping in this area it would be easier because the water is there. Along the way I can see how beautiful the bridge is which is adding the enjoyment to your advanture.

Enjoy your trip!
