Assumption Cathedral Architecture, A Great Cathedral In Bangkok
Hello everyone and all members of the Architecture & Design community,
Warm regards to all of us,
If you are traveling to a place, what do you like most about exploring? Looking for an experience, enjoying a vacation at a hotel or shopping? Well, if that question is directed at me, I like to seek experience in new places and enjoy history, especially if it becomes a landmark of a city/country.
I was in Bangkok for vacation, even though this was my 11th time to this white elephant country, I had never been around Bangkok. I always have plans in this country, seven years ago, I only had time to go shopping without ever going around Bangkok for vacation. I only know around the pratunam market.
This time, I'm looking for new experiences such as making new friends, traveling around Bangkok by public transportation and enjoying interesting entertainment in this city. Like this time, I'm looking for some interesting places that are landmarks of the city of Bangkok, especially regarding houses of worship.
Surfing on Google for an hour, google showed an interesting thing and I was interested. Instead of visiting a temple which is a landmark of this white elephant country, Google offered me to immediately go to a place called the Assumption Cathedral. This is a church which is close to the hostel where I stay. It's only 2 km away, I got on a grab motorbike there because by chance my leg was slightly injured.
Assumption cathedral, located in a school complex with the same name. It is a very old cathedral, over 200 years old. Located in the Bang Rak area, this church is one of the interesting destinations to visit. If you are tired of seeing the many skyscrapers in the city of Bangkok, this destination is the perfect antidote. There's nothing wrong with enjoying the beautiful, interesting architecture of this old cathedral.
I arrived at the Assumption cathedral in the afternoon, but unfortunately the cathedral was closed for public visitors. I can only enjoy the beauty of the cathedral building from the outside, but it's still very good because it's still allowed by security to enter the building area. If you want to see the beauty of the architecture in the building, you can search for it on Google with a very high rating.
When entering the cathedral area, we were checked by the security on duty, then after that I entered from the main door and saw the magnificent building of the Assumption Cathedral from the side. So luxurious is the architecture of this building, the walls outside the building have a European building concept made of flaming terracotta, there is a texture that feels different from ordinary cement walls. The concept is so stunning and very rare on the Asian continent. This building has a real aura and ambiance, real and majestic. The height of the building which looks like a building with 2 to 3 floors is actually only 1 floor.
On the outside of this cathedral building there are several statues, an entrance flanked by 2 statues with different names, these statues look very real and are carved in great detail. The main entrance is also made of sturdy material and has interesting details such as some simple writings and carvings made of gold. In addition, there are many pillars at the main door that have carvings and details that unite the two cultures, such as European and Thai culture. Especially on the tiles which are made of a mixture of gold and green colors which seem very simple and luxurious. Not much is exaggerated but the impression from the outside of this building leaves us in awe of the architect's creations of this cathedral.
Interestingly, this building has a courtyard with a large parking lot, so many vehicles can enter this area. There are schools and several multi-purpose buildings in the cathedral area. When I entered, it felt very calm and away from the hustle and bustle of a busy city. Indeed, if you want to come to the Assumption Cathedral, it will be very difficult because it is far from BTS and buses. It would be better to use private vehicle or grab.
I hope, if you are on vacation to this white elephant country, occasionally visit some interesting places such as the Assumption Cathedral and other interesting places, because you will get a new atmosphere and new experiences.
See you the next time hive friends!

Hi there, @aswita. 😃 Assumption Cathedral is 200 years old? Wow, that's a long time ago and I'm sure it has a lot of history. I like the architecture of this cathedral, it's magnificent and a work of art. The brains behind this edifice did amazing.
This is nice. 😃😊😊 Thanks for sharing.
I was also very surprised when I found out that this cathedral has been standing for 200 years. Maybe the building was not as grand as this before and gradually it was built more magnificently and beautifully as it is today.

Goodness me, 200 years old? I would never tell! It looks so fresh, like it was built just yesterday. Shame it was closed.
The cathedral is built in Italianate style, but I am not sure about the red brick. A bit unusual.
The fact is like that, maybe the cathedral was built from small buildings and is now even more magnificent. The building is very well cared for, even made of very high quality materials.
waoo very cool .. this is amazing
i think so :)
