The Tears of Moharram
The month of Moharam is particularly important to Shia Muslims because they think that their holy Imam was assassinated by Yazidis during this month, and they grieve and pray in memory of that day.
This is the first Islamic month in the calendar, and it is the month when people recite Noha, do Matam (beating on their chests), and wear black clothes to express their sadness and sorrow to Imam Hussain.
From the first to the tenth Moharam, they hold Majalis to denounce the violence that occurred in Karbala 1400 years ago.
Every year, Majalis is held in remembrance of the day. In Majlis, scholars discuss Imam Hussain's life and, in the end, recount the account of Imam Hussain's slaughter.
This was a brief description of the month of Moharam. A special Majalis has been organized at the Fatimiya Centre, where you can see images of small children sharing their sadness and sorrow.
I've also included some photos of the Nazar (free food) offered at the end of the majalis.
