     ESCAPE THE ISLAND is the latest craze sweeping the Philippines. Young and old alike enjoy the combination of mental and physical challenges that this popular new activity brings.

     Usually a time limit is set according to one's experience and skillsets, but all participants are faced with the challenge of escaping a remote island in the given timeframe. Newbies can take a maximum of 24 hours, while more experienced island escapers can build a raft and paddle to freedom in less than 3 hours.

     We're staying in the Philippines again for this next post about CROCODILE SECURITY PATROLS in villages across the country. Floodwaters have not yet receded, and with that comes crocodiles looking for a transition to an urban lifestyle.

     These brave souls are out in the streets to scare away any potential man-eaters from the local neighborhood, a truly selfless act. Local first responders like police, firefighters, and EMTs have been too afraid to brave these waters, so the local citizens have taken it upon themselves to fend off wandering crocs.

     GINGER KITTIES ARE SECOND CLASS CITIZENS IN THAILAND, at least that is the pecking order when it comes to the food bowl. As a ginger myself, I know all too well about the freckled struggle.

     The ginger gene exists in all living creatures, and although it may be an appropriate color for lions, tigers, and cheetahs, the smaller domesticated variety are treated as second-class felines by fellow tabbies and other kitties. Rumor has it that gingers have no souls, but just at these cute little furballs, surely that can't be true.
