Β Β Β This week's featured ASEAN Hive is not the only one of us living in the Middle East, which I recently found is also known as West Asia. @olivia08 lives in Saudi Arabia where she spends her time as a domestic worker, and this gentleman is not far away in the UAE where he works as a nurse.
Β Β Β I don't recall if he's ever shared his face with us, and after several minutes of scrolling and clicking I was unable to find any images of him. Well, rest assured he is a real human providing a valuable service to Emiratis (or whatever citizens of the UAE are called). This Pinoy gentleman shares food, urban shots, and much more from this country that I know very little about other than it is a very wealthy place.
Β Β Β He doesn't post very often on Hive, and I can only assume it's due to such heavy workload. After all, these rich Arab countries don't hire foreign workers to give them an easy life, they hire foreigners to do the jobs they would rather not do. I hope the money this guy saves working in this part of the world can someday be used to build himself a better life in his home country or perhaps use it as a springboard for further opportunities.
Β Β Β @sgbonus maintains a significant @asean.hive delegation (200 HP), and we all know how important delegations are in keeping this community an active place. His posts are always insightful and of high quality, but because they don't come around often, perhaps it's best you follow his blog if you like what you see so that you don't miss any future posts.

Great Selection for the week. So Congratulations @sgbonus.
Thank you so much!
I know quite a few people that moved to Saudi to get some extra money for a season or two. Although I don't think I would enjoy the life there I think it would be very easy to save money since you aren't allowed to drink beer in many places.
An ex of mine was more or less raised over there by former Black Panthers converted to Nation of Islam to Wahabi Islam. I didnβt know it until she told me, but if you live in a gated community you can more or less create your own laws to a certain extent. She was very privileged, so her community was wealthy, and she said she never went beyond the gates. Within she said there were liquor stores, women driving, unveiled, bars, etc., even malls. She could recall being in a car for a half hour all within the gates, absolutely mind-boggling.
The migrant domestic workers have a totally opposite experience from what Iβve seen, not exactly fun, but itβs all about saving money and escaping. I once spent 24 hours in transit at the Jeddah airport with my family, later on I googled it and found itβs the lowest rated international airport. Riyadh is the showpiece airport and Jeddah is for East Africans and migrant workers.
I recall seeing a film about those gated communities where you basically don't adhere to any Sharia law. I didn't know, until now, that it was a real thing though.
I think if my flight was going to transfer through KSA that I would just look for a different flight.
Thank you so much for featuring me! I truly appreciate it.
I actually work as a Physiotherapist, not a nurse hehe, I have some posts before where I showed my face but, I guess recently I haven't shared any photos of myself. You're right, the citizens here in the UAE are called Emiratis.
You're right, I don't post as often because of my heavy workload and sometimes you're just really tired from being in the clinic for a whole day + the commute going home.
Thanks again for everything! There's something really exciting that's going to happen in the next few months. I'll probably post about it one day.
Have a great month ahead!!
Physiotherapist, I see, very specialized. Is it easier to find work in the UAE verus a nursing degree? I feel lucky that I got Emiratis right π. Hang in there my friend, and thanks for sharing your life with us despite having a heavy workload.
Actually, medical degrees are in demand here, but lately, the market has been saturated because of the influx of many people, so salaries are becoming lower and the sad thing about that is some people would even accept the low salaries just to stay here. People always tell me that this place is just a stepping stone, it's better to look for a place that offers citizenship because everything here is just temporary. Thanks for the words of encouragement! Take care always! Continue doing your best!
