My Rant About The State of Media in India

I have to start by saying that I will just be ranting about my bad experiences with how the Media in India has carried themselves and how they have liters lost every centimetre of integrity throught the last couple of decades.

I am a 90s Kid so I know this very vividly as to how Media used to work back in the days which was pretty boring as there was always a lag in their news because we still were in the Offline Era but slowly with the advent of Internet things have shifted a lot towards more entertainment and less factual journalism.

Most of the Media Houses currently are owned by either Politicians or Industralists supporting certain Political party which means almost in every case there is a Political Battle in the Media house rather than looking at factual evidence.

I was a guy who used to read a newspaper every single day as my School Principal used to say that getting to know what’s going on in your country is important and it will only broaden our horizons. But now there is nothing new to learn from newspaper as it is just huge sponsorships, and the headlines are always something that you are ok with not knowing.

The Media only cares about their TRP and for that they are willing to publish any story without checking facts or without even considering the effects that news might have on general public.

They have certainly lost any Credibility in my opinion.

This is my participation post for the April Monthly Prompt Initiative

Please do check out the above post if you are interested in participating in this Initiative as here you will get one topic to write on every single day of April.

No. I would say they did not have the credibility from the get-go.

Neutral/Unbiased media is a myth, and they have been imposed upon us as something like sacrosanct or 4th pillar of democracy....when I say so....please do consider that I am talking about the role of media since genesis.

And this is equally true on the global front.

Mainstream media and their poster boys are all loyal to money and power and the same is disguised as ideological left or center or right leanings or communist/socialist/capitalist....so on and so forth.

It really is hard to just watch the news and then constantly debate with myself whether the news that they reported on is true or just a false propaganda.

I am furious on another level as once there was a severe earthquake and all the electric and telephone lines were broken and in the midst of all that the media decided to Air the fact that the town I was staying in had severe casualties around 85%.

My parents were just lost once they heard the news as they were unable to contact me and could only rely on the media

Thanks to the age of social media and parallel alternatives, at least we have options to figure out what is the truth albeit a lengthy process.

Back in 2020 when the media was reporting on how full of covid patients the hospitals were, I still trusted what they had to say. Then a friend of mine had a heart attack and I took them to a hospital that was deader than I have ever seen it before! That got me curious and I checked other hospitals and they too were nowhere near as busy as the media was reporting. That got me started down the rabbit hole of the Covid lies and deception. From that day forward, I have not turned on a TV or radio because I didn't want to hear their propaganda. I still read our local newspaper to learn about local issues, but often get frustrated to see how they too follow the narratives of the mainstream media. We are living in a world controlled by gangsters!
