Objects and clothing from the colonial period in Venezuela
Today I bring you some graphics of objects and clothing used during the Spanish colonial period in Venezuela, some of them are more than 300 years old so they represent part of the cultural heritage of the nation.
The tableware has an Asian background although it was developed in all peoples of the world, although there are theories that support that the pottery was born in China and then moved to different countries to reach Europe, in the case of America the aborigines before the Spanish invasion and made pottery shows that are the three great civilizations that existed as are the Aztecs, Mayans and Incas who not only dominated the mud, also made many advances in medicine, metallurgy, agriculture in all these cases is hidden by official history.
What strikes me powerfully is that the dishes that represent our heritage are those possessed by wealthy families as is the case of Simon Bolivar one of the richest men of his time.
The tableware is of Spanish manufacture with clear influences of Asian and perhaps Islamic culture since the Moors Arabs were 800 years on Spanish soil invasion that brought countless cultural mutations.
The silver objects were made with silver stolen from these lands and although they do not specify in the museum their origin is very probable that they were melted and emptied in Venezuela since at that time there were already silver workers.
In the case of the costumes, they were made on Venezuelan soil, but not the fabrics that were brought by Indian traders who imported all kinds of supplies requested and demanded by the Spanish. We can appreciate in the graphic suits belonging to the different social classes of the time. From the liturgical, costumes of the mantuanos whose word was used to call women who wore cloaks over their heads to commemorate religious activities, the laws of the time did not allow the descendants of blacks and whites called mulattos, or the mixture of aborigines with African descendants called zambos, Neither the afro-descendants nor the aborigines use this mantle because of the privilege and status it meant for the Spanish society born in Venezuela. In past publications I have expressed that the Spaniards whose children were born in Venezuela did not have the same privileges as the Spaniards born in Spain.
