Making a bird feeder

Hello Hive lovers, today I started a project that had been waiting in queue for some time.

And since the last tour through the e-Bird app we discovered that there are an average of 44 species of birds in our environment.

With the opening of our AgroCafe we ​​are doing everything possible to welcome our customers with the greatest immersion experience in nature. Can you imagine tasting a coffee or eating a cake while watching birds of different types?

That is exactly what we want to achieve. We have chosen a site near the AgroCafe as a pilot site to experiment. First with the bird feeder and then with the planting of some species of wildflowers to attract other pollinators including a species of Hummingbirds that fascinate us. But this will be to talk and show in another post.

To make this bird feeder I have used part of the wood that I have used to make the concrete bases for the extension of our bathroom and dressing room, which appears on my hive blog.

I mean, recycling haunts me, so I didn't wait too long to give this wood a new life.

As tools, I used a drill to drive screws, a grinder, a hammer and some screws were enough to do the entire modification and manufacturing operation.

I had to remove the excess cement to avoid contaminating the birds. The rest was to give the rest of the wood a good sanding to make it more aesthetic.

After installing the last screw I dedicated myself to opening the hole in the ground to nail the feeder. At this point I had already seen several birds, we have about 4 trees near the house that provide support for most of the surrounding birds and the location of the feeder is just in front behind a tree which will make it easier for the birds to go. and they perch on different branches.

Place some stones in the hole to adjust and stabilize the feeder, fill with a little soil and that's it.

I put some rice and corn flour as food, waited a few minutes and voila, there were birds in the new feeder. Everything went as we expected, it was very rewarding although exhausting because I made several videos of this process and photographs for the networks.

In a few days I will upload how we will select wildflowers to attract pollinators.

If you have some material in your house, you can surely make a model similar to the one I made or give free rein to your imagination and make the model that you like the most. It will always be good to have birds at home.

In my case I used corn flour but it is advisable to use seeds from nearby trees that you can collect yourself to place in the feeder. And the use of fruit is widely recommended because it is part of the real diet of birds. Otherwise, try to contact a bird expert to tell you, depending on your region, what you should feed the wild birds around you.
