Overcomer | A test of my Motherhood

I have this list of pointers that was written last 27 June 2019, two years after giving birth. For a long time, writing had been one of my primary means of expressing myself, my experiences, and my emotions. I'd want to share something that I hope first-time moms and dads will consider.

2017 after giving delivery, I battled depressive symptoms. Nobody knows how I was feeling. Even I and my partner remained unaware of this until some time in 2019 when I became aware of it through articles and even realizations that occurred. Depression is really a silent killer -- mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and physically. This stage can affect both men and women, especially first-time parents. If you have a friend or family member who is about to become a parent, wish them well.

These are some factors that, in my perspective, should be considered enough so people do not feel bad. As these are the things that I hoped had indeed been given to me.

- Never let the person feel he/she is incapable, worthless and alone.

- Patience is always a virtue! Give them the best patience you could ever have. In case you can't stand it, just take a deep breath and never speak.

- Everyone that surrounds him/her must be very careful about the words to say. Coz there are a lot of times because of lack of sensitivity people tend to judge them.

- You could always give them advice but always be careful of the things you say.

- If you are younger or older than that person, you better have the right attitude towards them.

- Always think of putting your shoes in their situation.

- Lastly, keep on praying for them. Never stop praying for them so that they may see the good side of every situation they are facing. PRAYER is the most powerful weapon everyone could have and if you can take the opportunity - pray for them.

Today, as I looked back on how I overcome those moments, I could tell that really God was amazing for still protecting me throughout my despair, depression, and mental battle 5 years ago. He, always and forever never left me, never forsake me (Hebrews 13:5). And I hope these insights would be of big help. 💜💜💜

I have a handful of friends battling major depressive disorder. I myself had been clinically diagnosed with general anxiety disorder in 2020. It is difficult and it seems like it never goes away 100%. But with God’s grace every day's a better day now. Let's not take our mental health for granted, it's as important as our physical health. Mya peace be in your heart and mind always, Ma'am. ☺️
