How ill is Splinterlands really? Community Question
At this point I would just like to ask the question:
How ill is Splinterlansd really ?
It is not unknown to anyone that many mistakes have been made in the past. And many mistakes have been acknowledged. That should also be considered.
But is that enough?
The first big question for me is what is the value of this game based on?
I originally started playing because I really appreciated the fact that I could sell all my assets if I wanted to quit. So a lot of it felt like an investment in the future.
Well, this Infest is now not worth nearly what it used to be.
But isn't that exactly where the mistake lies?
The whole point of this game is to have fun and enjoy a good time.
With other games, the money invested is indisputably gone. And you accept that.
It's different here. Every euro is mourned here.
Basically a great pity, especially when serious mistakes are made.
First and foremost, the community should be maintained or even expanded. Then there will be enough people interested in new cards.
I am curious to see whether this will be implemented.
What do you think is the biggest weakness of Splinterlands and the reason for the current situation?

It seems to me that one of the bigger problems is monetizing the application.
According to messages found on Discord, maintaining the server costs $75,000 per month, which is about $2,500 per day. With a daily player count of around 7,000, this translates to a cost of approximately $0.35 per day, or over $10 per month per player.
I’m not sure if these are all the costs, as maintaining the server can mean everything: both the infrastructure itself and employee salaries, among many other things.
Now, the main question is: how does Splinterlands make money, besides generating new portions of DEC and SPS and releasing new expansions? With the current number of players, these revenue sources are highly inflationary. We have more and more cards and tokens, whose value must decrease because there is no demand for them.
In my opinion, focusing solely on attracting new players is not enough and will not fix the situation in the long run, because when players realize that the value of their assets is constantly decreasing, they will leave.
Maybe it’s time to think about a way to bring in money from outside the player base? Perhaps some non-intrusive ads displayed while waiting for a match, for example, every 10 matches?
You yourself wrote:
I think this mechanism is both a blessing and a curse. While in other games, a player pays and accepts upfront that they won’t get their money back for the entertainment, in games like Splinterlands, most will feel disappointed or like losers when the value of their assets keeps dropping.
To be honest, I haven't even thought in this direction yet.
That the developers have costs that need to be covered is indisputable. But I didn't expect these costs to be so high.
Apparently, not enough money is collected through fees.
Of course, I ask myself whether server capacities could not be used more effectively, especially with an average of 7k players.
That the value of the cards depends on supply and demand is of course logical. The developers themselves have earned money from sales and rentals, or do I have that wrong in my head.
Basically, there should be a healthy interest in being active.
Unfortunately, what I can't understand is that no Battlepass has been introduced yet. It was repeatedly mentioned here on peakD that this is a good idea and that cosmetic content etc. could be introduced.
That would be a simple idea to gain people's support without forcing anyone.
The idea of paying for battles doesn't really make sense to me, in my opinion it drives too many players away.
On the other hand, why not offer the possibility to play "free" with a small prize pool and "prime" for an entry fee somehow weekly or so.
There are enough possibilities.
The important thing is that the players become very satisfied again. With increasing satisfaction, the number of players also increases as a consequence.
I can't really say whether the developers have to/should change anything internally, I don't know the circumstances well enough for that.
But when I look at what has developed around Splinterlands, I can see that the community is definitely up for it. Maybe not for everything, but basically there are a lot of good people here. You have to be able to make use of that.
