It Was Really Hard Combining Both Rice Harvesting and Processing

Hello lovely Homesteaders. Today was really difficult for me in my rice farmland. I combined both the harvesting of the rice and its first stage of processing. In this post, I will be discussing with you why I have to stress myself by combining the two methods and also the challenges behind them.

You know that Christmas is already around the corner for this year’s season and it’s actually the best time for rice harvesting. The main reason why I’m always excited about harvesting and processing my rice close to the Christmas period is that I make a lot of profit by selling them off to people. Yes, of course, most household prefers to celebrate Christmas by cooking and eating rice. You see why it’s actually good to have a rice farm investment despite what you do for a living like a civil servant or an entrepreneur.

Like I said at the beginning of this post, the reason why I decided to combine both rice harvesting and the first stage of the processing. The reason was that neighboring houses close to my rice farmland told me that the rice has ripped properly and that I need to harvest them because domestic and other birds are already eating them up.

Like seriously, when I visited my rice farmland today for the harvesting, it was indeed that birds have already started eating them up. To my greatest surprise, one small portion of the rice which I did transplanting due to the flood didn’t ripe with others but I had no option but to still move ahead with the harvesting before birds will eat them all. But during the process of the rice harvesting, I left the little portion of the rice farmland that didn’t ripe with others so that I can harvest them when I want to harvest other rice farmland.

Do you know that when I and the people I hired to help me in harvesting the rice from my farm? The sickle that I was using for the rice harvesting got spoiled and I was somehow frustrated in the rice farmland. I didn’t want to live the rice behind without harvesting them all and at the same time processing its first stage.

One other thing I also faced from my rice farmland today was that I had little rice seed turnout than my previous rice harvest. The reason why I didn’t have enough rice seed from this particular rice farmland was that the farmland is not all that fertile to be compared to the other of my rice farmland. Another reason is that birds had already eaten half of the rice farmland. These are the reasons I insisted on harvesting them today.

How I processed the rice first stage after the harvest:

In a normal sense, after I have harvested the rice, I’m supposed to allow the rice seed and the stem to be together for about three to four days for proper drying. This will allow some of the rice seeds that didn’t ripe well to dry with the ripped ones. This will also make it easy when trying to remove the rice seed from the stem.

Today, what I used to do my rice threshing after harvesting was a wheelbarrow. The use of a wheelbarrow in rice processing/threshing is done when you take some stems containing rice seeds and be hitting them gently to the wheelbarrow when bent. This will make the rice seed to be falling off one after the other.

Whenever you want to use a wheelbarrow or any other tools to process your rice, make sure that you lay some large empty mats on the floor. The use of this is where the rice seed will be falling whenever you’re hitting them.

To be honest, I was not all that impressed with today's rice harvesting because of the outcome. I believe that I still have other rice farmland to harvest rice and I will cover today’s loss.
