MEDICINAL PLANTS FOR COLDS

In these days where the rain does not want to leave us a little truce, and we need to go out almost daily to run errands, even more those who work outside the house, who are forced to go out almost all week, it is difficult not to receive a dose of downpour in our bodies, both on the way there and on the way back, and colds and flus are becoming present, in some cases even bronchitis.

I grew up in a very Creole environment in which grandmothers used to solve many ailments with their famous guarapos, of course, if these had not taken hold, which would merit medical assistance for safety. But at the slightest hint of a cold, sneezing, coughing, and runny nose, my mom and my aunt filled us with guarapitos of medicinal herbs, and so I grew up, and so I was formed, sure that those teas were miraculous and by drinking them, with warm water, lemon and honey, I could say goodbye to a stronger flu.

I am going to mention some of these herbs that you surely have at home, and if you do not have them, I recommend you to plant them to prepare these wonderful teas, which will relieve the discomfort of colds in these rainy days.

1.- Small oregano

This herb has a very strong aroma, and besides being a delicious natural condiment, it is used in teas to soothe congestion problems, coughs, and sore throats.

2.- Large oregano

This type of oregano, also known as oregano oregano orejón, is prepared in infusions and is soothing for stomach aches, and very effective for coughs and respiratory problems.

3.- Aloe Vera.

The aloe vera crystal mixed with honey and lemon is a wonderful combination for colds and catarrh.

4.- Malojillo or citronella

This plant has a delicious smell similar to lemon, that is why its flavor in tea is so pleasant. It is used to relieve headaches, fever, colds and digestive problems.

5.- Basil

This plant besides being another delicious seasoning for many foods, in infusions calms stomach problems, and relieves general discomfort caused by the flu.

6.- Boldo or acetaminophen

It is anti-inflammatory and relieves throat discomfort in cases of flu or pharyngitis.

7.- Lemon balm

This plant besides being excellent soothing, digestive and natural sedative, relieves coughs, colds, and nasal congestion caused by the flu.

All these plants have healing properties in case of flus and colds, but they only work as a symptomatic relief, so it is necessary to go to the doctor and follow the prescription indicated in each case.

Thank you for visiting my blog. Have a nice evening.

Wow! what beautiful plants, my mom also has several in the yard, I also grew up drinking the guarapos for colds, with honey and lemon they are delicious; during the pandemic the medicinal plants were in great demand and new combinations emerged.

Greetings!

Yes, I remember during the pandemic time citronella was highly recommended as a support for covid. I love to combine some of these herbs when I get a cold, they give me so much relief. Cheers!!!

Thank you, you are right. Since I was attracted to the use of herbal teas for colds, I documented myself as much as possible on their properties and ways to use them. I even bought a book with quite a bit of interesting information.

I used to have basil in my garden, a delicious smell it gave off, but it dried up haha here what is missing is some rain, we have the two extremes, over there a lot of rain, over here it is absent 😂

Knowing how to use these herbs to alleviate cold symptoms is very practical and useful 👌🦉

Hahahaha, the same thing has happened to me with many plants.
With the rains they almost resurged like the phoenix. It really hasn't stopped raining a day for a couple of months now.
Basil is delicious. Its smell and taste is one of the richest in the kitchen.

We always appreciate a reminder of how important medicinal plants are. WE talk about the cost of living crisis and I think knowing how to treat minor ailments with medicinal plants is another way we can keep to budget!
