My first time in Oslo: a walk through Norway’s urban soul (ENG/ESP)
Norway is a fascinating country in nature and incredibly quiet. This is my first time in the capital Oslo, 130 kilometers from where I currently live, to get there, we can choose to take the train, drive or use bus. This first option is the cheapest if you buy the tickets with more than 72 hours the price is “low”.

Oslo is not a particularly big city, but different and new enough for me to get lost in every architectural detail. My first impression when getting off the subway is to discover an imposing Royal Palace, which still to this day is used as one of the residences of the royal family. You can walk through its surroundings.
Fun fact: the Norwegian royal family is considered the “coolest in the world”, being open, inclusive and inclusive in their speeches.
The time we had available to go was in January, without hesitation we took advantage of our few days to explore the city soul of Oslo.
The most famous street in Oslo is called Karl Johans gate and it is almost impossible not to walk or see this street if you visit Oslo, it has many activities and places of interest from the beginning to the end, in its surroundings you can find emblematic places for the city and the country, like the parliament (Stortinget), the center of “operations of the country”, where most of the important decisions are taken.

To get to this street you can look for “la estacion teatro nacional” as a reference, where of course you will find the Theater, this super shady square with some sculptures and K. Johans street.

I was amazed to see such young children ice skating, playing, having fun as part of their daycare activities (barnehage), it is a bit fascinating to me how such young children have the freedom to learn and develop these skills without the overprotection of parents (helikopterforeldre).
Norway, like many other cities has a facility for alternative transportation, many electric bicycles, scooters, as well as the more traditional subway, train, metrocable, buses.
Not all are always viable, as conditions with snow and some ice on the ground can be dangerous.

Walking a little from the center of the city I found a striking dome, it was the Cathedral of the Savior of Oslo (Oslo Domkirke), a church that unites the urban design of the seventeenth century with modernism, as it is in the middle of an active area between stores, public transport, and lots of people. A busy place that escapes from the traditional Norwegian calm, and is that in big cities life always goes faster.
It is easy to miss details of this area if you do not pay attention. So enjoy your walk calmly and observe well.
Another recommended nearby area is the Aker Brygge, which is a busy pier where you can find a lot of little shops or restaurants where you can sit down to eat, have a drink, shop, or spend time walking among structures, boats and people.
In this area of the pier you will also find a SUPER interesting place and it is the Nobel Peace Prize building, where the Nobel Peace Prize is awarded every year.
There are many interesting places to see in and around the center, so if you are planning a visit to Oslo, my recommendation is to look for an accommodation near the center, and make your tours walking, it will take you a couple of hours but you will be entertained all the time discovering attractive things.
The tour ended with a not very traditional or local dinner, but always going for the safe option, my chicken burger and a beer, of course.
After a longggggggg long tour we decided to go back to the hotel and rest, because the day of exploration in the urban soul of Norway left us exhausted, but not before taking a picture together in this famous and romantic street at night.

Great review with very pretty pictures thank you for sharing! I think all of Scandinavia is awesome, I have yet to persuade my wife to go to colder countries for our holidays though 😆
😹😹 It can be very easy to persuade if you present the same argument as the Scandinavians: "let's enjoy a Disney-like snowfall". You can also find cheap tickets to fly with Ryanair if you are in Europe.
Greetings.

Lovely lifestyle there. One day we are going to combine a trip to Norway and Iceland
Norway-Iceland and also Sweden! It is really impressive the nature and the beauty you get in the forests, of course the cities and some villages tell you incredible stories. Try it! I'm pretty sure you will enjoy
Saludos!
I loved exploring Oslo with you! When I started reading and looking at pictures my first thought was - 'OMG, is it first slow already in Oslo in September?!" but then text helped me to understand that the journey happened in January, so I'm calm about climate in Norway now :) Looks like you've managed to see a lot for one day and based on your travel tips it will be quite easy to see the city, thank you very much for sharing the story and lovely photos!
Haha! Thank you, it has been a pleasure sharing this story with you. The center of Oslo is small, one day to walk around it is enough, it can be difficult in winter because of the snow and then you have to slow down so you don't fall off.
I did another tour in my visit to Oslo, I haven't finished writing the post yet, but I will share it here as soon as I finish.
That's great, Im Looking forward for your new story about Oslo!
