The End of The Year Shopping For My Food Photography
Talking about the end of the year, maybe there are special things that you have added to your personal collection. It's not about collections for your family or gifts for your loved ones. But that is about your personal improvement.
There are people who want to add to their fashion collections such as bags and shoes which they use to meet important people around their work. There are also people who are trying to add a collection of equipment to their work such as a new computer, a new camera and so on.
For me, I prefer to upgrade things related to my hobby, namely food photography. I have always had a hobby of writing and today I combine my writing hobby and my cooking hobby. In the end, I became more comfortable and wanted to continue honing my food blogging hobby.
Indeed, rather than wanting to add items related to fashion in my life, I prefer to add collections related to the growth of my food blog.
To make my food blog look more attractive day by day, I do focus on adding food photography equipment. Little by little but surely it makes me happy. I feel that my collection of food photography equipment is very useful for improvising my food blog.
In the last month of 2022, I finally decided to upgrade my collection of food photography equipment, especially in terms of food plating. When I was in the city of Medan for food travel experience, which is about 20 km from my living area, I found a special shop for food serving equipment.
I am very happy to have found this shop. I like finding luck that is priceless. Why? Because it's usually very difficult for me to find food serving equipment in offline stores.
Usually I buy the equipment through an online shop in another city. So I didn't think much this time to enter the shop. I also bought several items at once for the end of this year. I will share what items I bought to upgrade my photography collection, stay tuned!
Javaco Ceramics
Javaco Ceramics provides a variety of food and beverage serving equipment. Starting from plates, bowls, mugs, glasses, cutting boards, and more.
From the outside, this shop does look small. But when I step inside, I feel like I'm in ceramic heaven. In accordance with the name they put, they do focus on items made of ceramic materials. Even so, they also provide some equipment made of wood and also made of woven, although this is relatively small compared to the number of collections of equipment made of ceramics.
By the way I've included some photos I took from the Javaco Ceramics archive from their Google Maps account. I apologize for not being able to take some direct photos of the front of Javaco Ceramics, because the conditions at that time were quite crowded.
To be able to take a photo of myself with a background that looks quiet, I have to wait a few moments to be able to capture that moment. Yeah, the real life vs in the photo always looks different. 🤣
The employees at Javaco Ceramics are very friendly. They will also be happy to listen to things that we need and they patiently give suggestions.
Meanwhile, for my food photography collection, I really focused on finding white plates. Meanwhile for the bowls, I prefer to look for bowls with a pattern because I already have several bowls without a pattern at home.
Use Value Efficiency
As you can see in my photos, I do look like I'm thinking long and hard about some of the items I'm going to buy. This is due to value efficiency.
I don't want to buy items that I rarely use, so I can save money. So, I have to be smart in terms of choosing the most useful items in my kitchen studio.
In fact, I have spent 3 hours shopping there. I am satisfied I can get what I want with the best value-for-money efficiency in my opinion at the moment.
The items I buy are like representative of every category of serving container I need. I bought a dinner plate, a soup plate, a bowl, a pudding glass, and a wooden coaster tray in the shape of a grid.
I SPENT [RP 316,000 / USD 22.5] on my total purchases.
Welcome To My New Collections
Once at home, I opened the results of shopping. The items that I bought are placed in the same goodie bag.
Each item made of ceramic is wrapped in paper beforehand to avoid friction and impact which will damage the texture quality of the surface of the item.
1. Dinner Plate
Previously I had a dinner plate at home but it was smaller. So I decided to buy another one, with a larger diameter. The size of this plate is 24 cm.
The surface of this dinner plate is glossy, and this is perfect for making food look fancy even though the ingredients are simple. I don't doubt that.
The price: IDR 95,000 / USD 6.78.
2. Soup Plate
This is one from my waiting list. I've been looking for a soup plate for a long time. Finally I found a classic and beautiful soup plate in this plate.
I need this plate for gravy dishes, also I want the left or right side of the plate to add interesting garnishes. So this soup plate is perfect for me to be able to explore creative playing activities.
The price: IDR 69,000 / USD 4.92
3. Bowl
I'm looking for a patterned bowl to serve a variety of dishes like rice bowls, also soups that can't use more plating techniques. That's why I need patterned bowls to complement the presentation of food to make it more attractive even without more complex plating techniques.
I found this patterned bowl quite interesting. It looks classic, also elegant but not crowded.
The price: IDR 85,000 / USD 6.07
4. Cocktail Glass Cup
Actually, my purpose for buying this type of glass is not for cocktails. But I am more focused on serving types of pudding or other desserts such as cakes.
I found a glass with a wide mouth. So I decided to buy this glass for me to explore with pudding plating later.
The price: IDR 35,000 / USD 2.5.
5. Wooden Coaster Tray Shaped Square
The initial function of this wooden try is actually for a glass base. Then my mind offers creative alternatives to using try. I'm thinking about serving a variety of small desserts as well as quick bites.
I bought two trays for the possibility of serving more food, even though they are small.
The price for 2 trays: IDR 32,000 / USD 2,285.

Oh we all have goals for the new year and we all have things to buy. Since I've been following your blog, you serve such wonderful and varied dishes on different plates that it's hard not to admire. It's only natural that you want to add new pieces to it and spend some money on it. I'm also thinking of replacing my phone as it's very old at the moment, but that's probably for the new year.
You know what, everyday I always looking at the ceramic shop through online. Not for buying the items. Sometimes I just wanna to make my mind be creative 🤣
So when I go to the "real" store, it was sooo satisfying 😊
