No Sugar, Please

Our selves are shaped by habits. So, form good habits.

Are you used to drinking hot drinks with added sugar? In the area where I live, even in my extended family, since childhood we have been accustomed to being served hot drinks with sugar. For example, hot tea with sugar. That's why we call hot tea drinks sweet tea.

Likewise with coffee. People in my area are used to sweet coffee. In fact, when I drink black coffee without sugar, people say I'm strange.

It is reasonable. People say I'm strange because their habits are different from what I do.

But I stand my ground. I want to consistently reduce sugar. Only occasionally drink sugary drinks. Moreover, most of my grandmother and mother's extended family members are affected by diabetes. That makes me have to consistently live healthier.

Drink coffee without sugar. This relates to The Coffee Shop Prompt this week. About modifying orders at the coffee shop.

This time, I worked from a cozy coffee shop. Feels like home. From the corner of the coffee shop, I'm editing a video for my YouTube video.

Well, back to the topic, when I order coffee, I always tell the waiter there not to add sugar to my coffee. Only coffee and fresh milk.

Not all waiters and coffee makers understand this. Several times I ordered coffee at a cafe, but instead I got very sweet coffee.

I really appreciate it if there are cafes that serve coffee with separate sugar, such as a small sachet of sugar.

If I'm used to bitter coffee, then it will taste better for me. In fact, if my coffee came sweet, it would be weird.

Because I reduce sugar, I usually order cappuccinos more often than various hot coffees with many variations added with sugar syrup.

For snacks, I prefer to choose ones that are not sweet. Like this one. Brownies, taste like sweet chocolate. In fact, in my opinion it is better paired with hot coffee.

Do you like sweet cakes or plain taste? I think it's all about habit. If you are used to an environment that eats sweet cakes, then it will feel bad. You will always crave for sweet things even if you are not working hard.

For those in the family who are used to food that tastes plain, the strong taste and sweetness will be strange.

So, always remind the waiter in the cafe about the sweeteners that are separated from the coffee. Especially in Indonesia. The waiter will think that the coffee we want is sweet because of the custom in this area of Indonesia.

Do you like bitter coffee? Or you don't even like coffee? Well, share your thoughts with me. Have a great day!

That's so responsible of you, and I'm pleased you broke the norm here.
In the past, I always had as much sugar as possible and then one day I stopped and I have not gone back. Now I also have my coffee black; no milk, no sugar.

in this area of Indonesia.

Is that the Aceh region? What about in Bali? Is it normal for them to put sugar without asking?

Greetings beautiful friend, how nice to read this story, in my family are also diabetics and I particularly sent me to lower the dose of sugar, I find it impossible and I only ingest it is precisely because of the coffee, in opportunities I wake up without sugar and make my black coffee without sugar, I drink it but it is not the same taste hahaha. And the cakes here in Venezuela are sweet everywhere. When I make them at home, I add little sugar. Greetings and blessings amiga bella. Cozy place and the coffee looks good, the good thing is that if it is with milk, there is no need for the sweetness of sugar. Hugs

Hello friend, how beautiful that whole experience is and that place looks very comfortable and cozy, so you can work and enjoy that coffee. I am one of those who ask for extra sugar in coffee shops every time I go to add it to the drink, since I have tried coffee without sugar and its taste is very bitter, without a doubt over time one gets used to it and leaving the sugar for health reasons is important, since in the end the important thing is to live. Better to be safe than sorry later.

I fully understand the duty to take care of your health by lowering the amount of sugar in your daily life, I also have descendants of people with diabetes and I apply that principle in my life.
However, I make an exception with coffee, I like it sweet.
Greetings

Without sugar, please, I agree with you, I do not add sugar to any type of coffee, alone or in combination, I consider it more nutritious. Success in such a distinguished publication.

Changing some habits is really complicated, but choosing to reduce the amount of sugar (or even no longer consume it in its most harmful form) is a very wise decision.

My family loves sweet tea and sugary coffee too, but I’ve been trying to cut down on sugar as well. It’s tough when everyone around you thinks you’re weird for it.

My oldies prefer a coffee without sugar, well it's instant coffee so even without putting it, it's already sweet. As for me, I put it when I prepare hot milk or chocolate drink, just a little bit though. And when I drink sweet coffee or milk, I love to pair it in a salty bread. Just to enhance my drinks sweetness 😆

Although everyone drinks coffee however they like best; I drink coffee without sugar and I think it is the best.
I have also eliminated sugar from our diet, not only because I have a history of diabetes in the family; but for our own health.
It has been interesting to learn about some of their customs.
Thanks for sharing, @anggreklestari

I am not a coffee nor a tea drinker. My drink of choice is water (no sugar).

However, the automatic sweet coffee reminds me of when my husband was visiting in Costa Rica. He and several others went to visit a woman who served them coffee. One of the men automatically added sugar to it. He could barely drink it since, as my husband said, it was so sweet before adding sugar that hardly any of them could even drink it. They all struggled since they knew she made it especially for them. No one had more than one cup. That one man, though, who added sugar had the toughest time of all!
