Gardening Activities For The Last Week Of October

There are many fun gardening activities in the beautiful end of October!

October is still filled with lots of rainfall! So I have to be careful so that the various types of plants in my garden are safe.

In addition to high rainfall, there are also wind attacks that often come together with rain. This is very dangerous. But I learned from the past, that I have to immediately secure some plants that are prone to collapse due to the impact of rain and wind.

First, I thought about tomato plants. The tomato plants in my garden are already 3 weeks old and have grown tall. So, in this gardening activity I will install plant supports for my tomato plants.

I prepared long bamboos. The length of the bamboo is 2 meters. At that time, I used these bamboo poles for cucumber plants. Because all my cucumbers have been harvested and the land has even been replaced with other plants, so I can use these poles for tomato plant supports.

Before installing plant supports on tomato plants, I also cleaned the weeds around the planting medium. Also, I pruned the old leaves at the bottom of the tomato plants.

I also prepared additional planting media to cover the roots of the tomato plants. High rainfall causes the planting media to quickly decrease. So, the planting media must be added again.

After installing plant supports on the tomato plants. I feel happy. Seeing my tomato plants grow well and now they are already producing flowers.

After finishing with the tomato plants, I continued to care for my shallot plants.

These shallots are now almost 3 months old after being transplanted. Almost ready to harvest.

I fertilized the shallot plants with compost. Also, cleaned the weeds. Pruning the old leaves on the shallot plants.

After that, I also tidied up the leaves of the shallot plants with a special hook. Carefully so as not to injure the leaves of the shallot plants.

My shallot plants look beautiful and full of love. Actually, this is also my first time growing shallot plants from seeds directly, not from shallot bulbs. So, I am really excited to see how the harvest will turn out. Let's wait together!

Before I invite you to harvest, I will invite you to see one of my cabbage plants! This is also my first time growing cabbage to this size.

Out of the many cabbage seeds that I planted, only one cabbage plant could grow and finally I took care of it until it was this size. Indeed, it is not ready to be harvested yet, so let's just wait.

It's time to harvest! First, I harvested mustard green flowers. I have harvested these mustard green flowers many times.

I am very grateful that this type of vegetable can give me a sustainable harvest and I can use this harvest to cook in my kitchen.

In addition to mustard greens, I also harvested purple eggplant plants. There are many purple eggplants that are ready to be harvested.

The thing that amazed me was the colors of the harvest this time were very beautiful. Bright! Look at them. ❤️

Have you started your garden today? May you have a garden side in your home and bring you peace!

Your cabbage crop looks so healthy. I love cabbage; one of my favorite vegetables. The smell is somewhat of a nuisance, but the taste is delicious. Thanks for sharing your end of October activity. It's amazing that you still have harvesting this time of year.

We're getting into Fall where the vegetables slack off. Thanks for sharing and take care.

Thank you for enjoying my garden activities
I love to share those things when the skies really bright 😊

Well, in Indonesia has no fall. Just rain and dry season. So here we can plant many variations of vegetables and can harvest any time 😊

Good day! I'm always amazed when I see posts about gardening or homesteading since these are rare sights in the city where I live. Your garden is particularly inspiring - you've managed to take good care of it and achieve great results too.

I bet those vegetables are much fresher and healthier than the ones from the groceries, so great job! 👏 A sustainable, healthy lifestyle is something I also dream of having during my retirement days 👍

In fact, yeah the taste is different from veggies from market. I tried with organic methods. The results really amazed me!

Thank you for stopping by🥦

A good reason why it taste different is because of farming methods, synthetic fertilizers, and they usually harvest days before it is supposed to be ready because they still need to travel from farm to the city 😩

That’s why backyard farming is definitely the best option for sustainable healthy lifestyle.

You also have a large area there :)
Actually, we can also utilize small areas by using pots, containers, or used sacks :)

Yes Ma'am that is one of the best way and methods particularly on those not enough spaces to plant Vegetables. But even if we have wide and large areas here, I decided to plant some of my vegetables in the pots. ☺

yeah, growing veggie in the pot is easier to take care rather than in raised bed directly.

It can also easy to transfer from one place to another Ma'am. 😁

I super love your dedication with each plants. Each received enough love and care from you, so for sure they will also give you a good harvest later. And with the changes in our weather today, giving more care to them is really necessary, eapecially those that grows taller. This is a happy garden!

@anggreklestari, here in Cuba there were many incentives to harvest in gardens, plots and also in the backyards of the houses to counteract the lack of food due to the blockade to which we are subjected and the people acquired a culture of consumption of vegetables. Wherever you go you can see a vegetable garden. And if I had a little piece of yard I would do it too, because I feel motivated every time I see with what dedication you manage to have so many vegetables. Beautiful eggplants. Happy Saturday to you and your family. 🤗🥰

Friend! It is always so nice to visit your healthy garden. It's because you take such good care of it.
Are you sure your day has 24 hours?

The rains are good, but insure everything and take care of yourself.

Honestly, it feels like 24 hours is not enough. lol
That's why there are many comments that I forgot to reply or replied late ehehe.

You have a bountiful harvest before the cold season. Are you planning to expand your garden to plant more?

You know, in Indonesia, there is no winter, or cold season, so we can plant and harvest all year round. It's just that some plants need to be adjusted to be planted in the dry season or the rainy season :)
It's really a blessing, here we are blessed with abundant sunshine.

This is my first time growing cabbage! And the funny thing is, I only managed to grow one plant to full size. I will try other types of cabbage that are suitable for the temperature in my area.

Wow, I see that you really love gardening. A lot of growing healthy plants in your backyard. Taking care of them makes them even grow more healthier. Having these plants around us can lessen the budget in buying vegetables in the market.

Your tomatoes are growing healthily maybe a few weeks from now it will bear fruits already. Thanks for sharing tips about gardening.

This is so much fun, utilizing the land next to my house. I try to make time for it. It used to be overgrown with weeds.
