December Garden Journal Challenge

The last month of 2024. A garden that continues to be blessed by love.

What we reap is what we sow since we were in elementary school we have learned the words of the proverb. Then since gardening I came to know what the proverb means implicitly and directly.

Our hard work will not betray the results. Although to get the best results we also have to fall several times. Even though we have tried a lot, it doesn't mean we immediately get what we want. In fact, the failures that occur will be a lesson for us and in the end we can succeed in getting the results we want.

That also happened to my garden. Of course the first 3 months at the beginning of the year I felt overwhelmed and failed. Especially to overcome pest attacks. In fact, I gave up when my eggplant plants were eaten by pests.

I didn't give up and finally I got to this point. A year of gardening. Right in December this month. This December, I will also temporarily stop my garden after I harvest some of the plants in my garden.

The cessation of my garden will only occur in December. This aims to rest the soil so that later the soil can be productive and fertile.

Let's see what plants I can harvest for December and close this year's Garden journal.

Curly Mustard Greens

At first glance, this vegetable looks like lettuce. But this is a type of Curly Mustard Greens. As the name suggests, the mustard green leaves do look curly.

After planting for one month, I can finally harvest! Look how fresh these Curly Mustard Greens are. Even though they are only planted with organic methods. I use goat manure.

The harvest results that make me excited to continue gardening next year!

Giant Mustard Greens

In Indonesia, there are many types of mustard greens that can be planted in the garden. Because we only have a dry season and a rainy season. So, it doesn't affect the harvest at all.

Actually, this type of mustard greens is the same as other types of mustard greens, except that its size is Giant, as the name suggests!

Look, how happy my face looks holding the harvest of these Giant Mustard Greens!

Bok Choi / Pak Choi

04C69AFD-09FF-4264-AE46-08D0BE25F828.jpeg

My favorite vegetable. Even this type of vegetable has the most searches on my YouTube account. It seems that people are curious about how to grow this type of vegetable at home. In fact, in Indonesia itself, planting bok choi is very easy because it is also suitable for the climate.

I always have a supply of bok choi vegetables in my garden because I and many of my family members like this type of vegetable. So, even if I don't consume it at that time, I usually give the bok choi harvest to other members of my family.

This time I used a different harvesting method. I didn't pull it out by the roots for this plant. I only harvested their leaves. This harvesting method will allow me to harvest continuously in the next few days.

Look, even though I only harvest a few leaves from each plant, I can get a lot of these bak choi leaves in one harvest! Whoa!

Plant Care Continues

Meanwhile, there are some plants that cannot be harvested yet. So, I still have to continue to care for these plants, maybe until early 2025. These plants are tomato plants and chili plants.

The tomato plants are almost ready to be harvested. Meanwhile, the chili plants are still starting to flower. So, it is certain that only these two types of plants will survive until 2025.

For care and including the rainy season this time, I give these plants fine eggshell powder.

Giving these eggshell powders will reduce the acidity of the rainwater that falls too often and hits the planting medium in my garden.

Soon my tomatoes will be ready to be harvested. I can't wait for them to turn red at the same time. How beautiful they are!

Garden Plan For 2025

C470B96E-EFE9-465F-B989-AC8111E17EF9.jpeg
In 2025 I will add types of fruit plants, such as Melon, Watermelon, and also jicama.

This year, precisely a few months ago I failed to harvest watermelon. But, I will not give up. I will try again.

In addition, I also plan to make more compost from kitchen waste, weeds, and dry leaves. That means I also have to prepare special closed containers to make the compost.

I will also add several types of flowers for the hedges as well to avoid pests.

Hopefully in 2025 our gardens will produce more productive harvests! For those of you who haven't started gardening, don't hesitate to start gardening. You can start making your own compost to later be used as a mixture of fertile planting media. See you! ❤️

Hi, when I see all those vegetables I want to make a sandwich, but with green tomatoes and fried tomatoes, just a little mayonnaise and a little mustard.

It should be a great thing, to say I'm going to make a sandwich, you go to the backyard and just grab what you need.

@anggreklestari Words of praise for your garden will go a long way🙋‍♀️. Because there are so many fresh vegetables in a garden🤗. Oh, I'm fida for your garden. Got so many tomatoes?😱 Red tomatoes will be good for making salad.🍜 Also it will be more delicious to make sauce. I also like garden very much.💕 I also have many vegetable gardens. But different gardens. You work hard in the garden. So lucky to get so many vegetables. As a gardenlover I would say in the future there will be more vegetables in the garden and the garden will be bigger.👍🤝👌

We need to understand our garden, it is not easy at first
even different corners of the garden have different pest challenges.
Don't give up and keep trying again in the new season.
Greetings from Indonesia.

We all should plant each and every vegetable in our house in this way, we should protect it ourselves, it will have many benefits, we will know about its quality, it will also be good for our health.

Hi, 😀 you seem to have it all planned. I think it's great that you're letting it rest. Crop rotation is also good for planting soils because as all plants do not absorb the same nutrients, then this is satisfactory.
Tomatoes, yummy!

You have to put lots of flowers and colours for the pests. I liked your reflection... if we don't fall we don't learn.

In fact, my mind can hardly stop thinking about garden planning, what plants to plant here and there, before the weeds start growing! oh!

With all the cooking and gardening you do, do you ever sleep? My heavens. What a garden. You let the soil rest in December. How about you?😇 And you blog a lot. That is an amazing amount of enterprise. Not just productive, but creative.

Hats off to you. Truly.

What I have noticed so far is that when these greens start to enter the harvest period, they will emit a "delicious" aroma and the caterpillars can smell it. So, when the harvest period is approaching, we have to be around these greens more often to monitor the movement of the caterpillars! I often catch some caterpillars who are ahead of me in harvesting those greens!

i often go out with big pincers and remove them all in the morning. but then there are too many for me to do that. they strip the plants bare!!

naughty caterpillars

Your plants look beautiful and so lushly green! The soil you’re using appears to be rich and loose. Do you use organic materials for your soil? Crushed eggshells are really effective for adding calcium, which helps with leaf growth and overall plant health.

Yes, I use organic soil.
Added compost, or sometimes manure 😊
Using chemical thing will damage the soil in the long term.

After harvest, usually I covered the used soil before using them again. So the soil became good again 😊

I use eggshell powder for tomato and chili plants. Yes really good calcium source

Oh I miss joining garden journal. It's been a long time that I wasn't able to do gardening.

Wow! Your plants looks so good and they are so healthy. May I know how did you come up with egg shell powder? Did you blend it?

Yeas, dear
I blended eggshells.
If we buy it, expensive ehehe.
So, eggshell powder really has value on garden.
