The city behind the Carpathian Mountains/Місто за Карпатськими горами

Hello, everyone!
It's been a long time since we've seen each other. I've been on a bit of a lull since last year, but I feel like I want to share some architectural finds with you again.
Today I'm going to show you Uzhhorod, a Ukrainian city at the foot of the Carpathians bordering Slovakia.

Uzhhorod is an old city that stands out for its diversity. As it is located on the border with another European country, the influence of other cultures is felt here, which, combined with the national culture, creates a unique charm and atmosphere in the city.

As I have already mentioned, the city has a long history, dating back to the 9th century. For more than a thousand years, it has been ruled by different countries, but in the end, it has always retained its Ukrainian characteristics.
Walking through the streets of Uzhhorod, you will immediately notice the paving stones: they are everywhere. What I really like is that it is small (I have never seen anything like it in central Ukraine). The city is also low: there are virtually no skyscrapers or tall residential buildings. After living in Kyiv, I immediately notice this, because "the sky is not closed" and you can see the sky. It might seem like a small thing, but after a metropolis, it's like a breath of fresh air. Another feature is the mountainous terrain: when you come here, you will be constantly walking from mountain to mountain. I myself grew up in a relatively hilly area, so I like this geographical feature.

One of the city's most prominent architectural landmarks is the Holy Cross Greek Catholic Cathedral, which is located on a hill in the city centre. It is a truly majestic architectural landmark! The church is built in the Baroque style, with its characteristic splendour of decorations and charm. However, there are also classicist features, such as columns and the characteristic yellow colour of the cathedral walls.

It's impossible to look away from it! But inside, everything is just as beautiful...

Just look at this elegance and luxury. The iconostasis and furnishings are made in gold, and the detail of the stucco moulding refers to the Rococo. This is a truly special cathedral, because it embodies both European and Ukrainian national styles.
Such places are really impressive.

Next to the church is a medieval castle and a museum of folk architecture and life. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to take photos of the castle because I didn't have time to go inside, so I have a photo of the wall.

However, opposite the castle is an equally interesting location - a skansen where you can see examples of Transcarpathian domestic architecture, ranging from antiquity to the 20th century.

It could have been a simple photo of the roof, but look closely: there's a squirrel! In the middle of the tour, the redhead decided to join us and look down on us. Of course, the little one became the main star.

In general, Uzhhorod is an incredible city, because in addition to its unique beauty, it gives a sense of comfort and tranquillity. It's the perfect place to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the big city and get inspired by its beautiful architecture and ancient atmosphere.

Ми уже ну дуже давно не бачились. У мене з минулого року був певний період затишшя, але я знову відчуваю, що хочу ділитися з вами знахідками архітектури.
Сьогодні я покажу Ужгород - українське місто біля підніжжя Карпат, що межує із Словаччиною.

Ужгород це старе місто, яке вирізняється своєю різноманітністю. Так як воно знаходиться на кордоні з іншою європейською країною, то тут відчутно вплив іншої культури, яке в поєднанні з національною створює неповторний шарм та атмосферу у місті.

Як я вже згадала, місто має довгу історію, яка відраховується 9 століттям. За більш ніж тисячу років воно встигло побувати під різними країнами, але зрештою завжди зберігало в собі риси українськості.
Гуляючи вуличками Ужгорода одразу в очі впаде бруківка: вона тут кругом. Що мені дуже подобається - так це те, що вона дрібненька (у центральній Україні я такої не бачила). Також місто невисоке: тут фактично немає хмарочосів та високих житлових будівель. Після життя в Києві я одразу помічаю це, адже "небо не закрите" і видно небо. Здавалося б, що це дрібниця, але після мегаполіса це як ковток повітря. Також особливістю є гірська місцевість: приїжджаючи сюди ви будете постійно ходити з гори на гору. Я сама виросла у відносно пагорбистій місцевості, тому мені така географічна властивість подобається.

Одна з визначних архітектурних пам'яток міста - це Хрестовоздвиженський греко-католицький собор, який розташований на пагорбі у центрі міста. Це справді велична архітектурна пам'ятка! Виконаний храм у барочному стилі, з характерною для нього пишністю декорацій та шарму. Хоча тут видно і риси класицизму, як от колони та характерні жовтий колір, у який пофарбовано стіни собору.

Неможливо пройти та відвести погляд! Але всередині все не менш гарно..

Ви тільки погляньте на цю ошатність та розкіш. Іконостас та меблювання виконане у золотому кольорі, а деталізованість ліпнини відсилає нас до рококо. Це дійсно особливий собор, адже в ньому втілений європейський стиль та український національний.
Такі місця дійсно вражають.

Поруч із храмом розташувався середньовічний замок та музей народної архітектури та побуту. На жаль, я не встигла зробити світлини замку, адже не було часу заходити до нього, тому у мене є фото стіни.

Тим не менш, напроти замку розмістилася не менш цікава локація - скансен де можна побачити зразки закарпатської побутової архітектури, починаючи від старовини і закінчуючи 20 століттям.

Це могло бути простим фото стріхи, але придивіться: там білочка! Посеред екскурсії руда вирішила доєднатися до нас і подивитися на нас зверху. Звісно, що маленька стала головною зіркою.

Загалом, Ужгород неймовірне місто, адже окрім своєї неповторної краси воно дарує відчуття затишку та спокою. Це ідеальне місце аби перепочити від метушні великого міста та отримати заряд натхнення, милуючись цією прекрасною архітектурою та атмосферою старовини.
