Kiteboarding - cross shore winds In Vietnam

After a bit of time getting fitted and geared up I spend time in the water getting my skills honed in. Dragging myself across the water to start the day off right.
I get up a few times and fall many times, the wind gusts and this makes it hard to maneuver. But it increases the ability to learn faster, if I let it.

Lets take a look at some of the photos taken after I was on the water for a while.


You can see the whitecaps on the waves and then in the next phot they are gone.
Where there is white caps on waves just outside the bay or beach, it indicated that the wind is 5 knots or above.

Let us watch as the kit moves along the skyline.

The preparation before the take off.
Notice the kites are 'facing' down. If the wind blows across the foil it will push the kite down instead of up and wild.
Some people put sand on the kits to hold them down. This practice happens but not recommended as the material can be ruined by abrasive material.
Lets face it on a beach is the makings of sandpaper. The UV exposure is the real killer of Kites. Knowing how many hours are on a kite is vital when purchasing a kite.

Here comes another kite from the right side of the frame.
Don't worry they pick different lines and make sure to leave enough room between each path as to not get lines twisted.
Getting twisted lines is a serious cause that needs to be avoided.
There is ways of untwisting lines at sea....it is not easy and not worth trying to learn how to be good at this. Although knowing how to untwist lines in the water is vital. Just not something you want to be practicing by causing such a commotion and possible danger.


The twist and pull into a figure '8' to get the power circle swirling.

Look at all those nice colours swaying in the skies.

What a sight to be seen.

How tranquil the kite stays aloft. With such forces pulling in many ways it is fascinating to see how this kits stay up and keeps a person suspended underneath as they cut through the water bellow them.

Pure magic...

Check out the colour and shape of this kite below.

That is a super sweet kite that is being used there. The way and angle that they are able to achieve today is quite a feat.

The grace you need to manipulate the kits in this way as many factors come into play to achieve this balance and poise in the water on the water between the ski and sea.
