Aftermath of sliding along the road - flesh wound pictures *be aware*

Life became real as I washed the blood from my body.  The moment of realization as the last few hours were a blur that took place fast. It must have been the overwhelming cold of the water that brought about the clarity on the situation. Looking at the blood swirled around the drain and seeing the bits stained and stuck to my clothes.

I could now stop and think about myself. My friend was being taken care of, she was being washed and stitched in the hands of medical staff. I could see my body open again. I could feel the pain of the sand rolling down the open wounds. On my knee I could see the streaks of blood mix itself with the life of water.

Contrasting red and skin, the pain and pleasure of still being alive. The moment throbs.

How the back tire slipped off the edge, the rolling into the air, it was all there. I could relive the moments as I sat there feeling the rocking motion of my body being thrown and holding my friend as we got bucked from the bike.

The next day of my friends leg.

The medical staff was so helpful and nice to our situation. They talked to us about what they were doing and what we should do. They insisted to deal with me but I was still concerned with my friends well being. She was going to be alright. Her tooth is chipped her legs are torn open and the slash on her chin had a few stitches in it. But everything would be alight. I was able to make my friend laugh despite the situation and then I knew it would be alright.

There was the issue of the bill. The many zeros was daunting to see but I was great full that I could go to an ATM and get the money to cover the expenses. I left the hospital and saw the moto scooter outside the building. It has the helmet and some other personal effects on top of the seat. The people who took us to the hospital were nowhere to be found, I asked around, they would not be found. The items sitting in the open, there for a while brought a smile to my face. To see that the community did not touch our things, that they respect others property and did not take what is not theirs, that is the type of community that I want to be apart of.

I made my way to the bank and paid the hospital what ever they asked for. A short while later we made it back to our hotel and passed out.

A few hours later I awoke and changed the bandages on my friends wounds. Disinfect and change the bandages. The flies were prevalent and tried to get into the wounds. I came up with this to help get airflow and protection of the wounds.

The tent kept the bugs off the open wound and reduced the pain of pulling gauze and bits of skin with it as it had to be changed often.

Gauze like this is good but hurts to remove.

A moment in the hospital that I looked at my phone. A memory of the hallway.

Overall the situation was not the worst and having the community help us was a big help. Thanks to the people who helped where ever you are.

My friend and I will be okay. We can still laugh and make a joke. Lets just hope the guy we rented the moped off of find it as funny as we do.

The next few days will be of rest and healing.

Thanks for having a look at the experience of time in El Nido Philippines. More to come.

We see a lot of these kinds of injuries in Krabi as well. The road will not be very kind to anyone falling of a motorbike. I hope you recover quickly!
