Ernesto was a peculiar guy, he always carried a small jean bag in the back pocket of his pants. No one knew what was in the bag, and Ernesto kept it a mystery.
One of those early autumn days, while walking down the street, Ernesto saw something that puzzled him, a jean bag identical to his own, hanging on a second floor fence. The bag was about ten feet high, and inside it, the contents remained an enigma.
Ernesto could not resist. His curiosity pushed him to make a bold decision. He looked around, making sure no one was watching him. Then, with a determination worthy of a movie hero, he climbed over the fence, noticing a ladder on the other side. Having passed the other side, he grabbed the mysterious pouch, but it slipped from his hand. Without a second thought, he launched himself towards the ladder. His feet slipped on the rungs, and his body staggered. But, miraculously, he managed to catch the bag in mid-air.
However, the law of gravity spares no one. Ernesto lost his balance and began to fall down the stairs. His arms were waving the jean bag as if it were a victory banner. People passing by on the street looked at him with astonishment and laughing comments. His dark glasses were fixed on his nose.
At that precise moment, someone pulled out their cell phone and captured the scene. The photo showed Ernesto in mid-flight, wide-eyed, looking over his glasses, and the jean bag floating next to him. The image went viral in a matter of minutes. Since @freewritehouse took it upon himself to make it public for the daring absent-minded to argue their different views of the scene.
Ernesto landed on the bottom step with a thud. He stood up, a little sore, but with the bag still in his hand. The crowd applauded and laughed. Someone asked him:
“What's inside the baggie, Ernesto?”
Ernesto smiled, shrugged his shoulders and replied, “It's my lucky charm!”
Ernesto became an urban legend. The jean bag was displayed in a local museum, along with the famous photo of his fall. And every time someone asked what was inside, the answer was always the same:
“Only Ernesto knows, it was his lucky charm.”
Users crowded to see the iconic photo and in their stories speculated about its contents. Some said it must contain lost treasure, while others were betting on something more mundane. We'll have to wait for those writings to turn up.
After Ernesto's death (at the respectable age of 97), the bag became part of the legend. Some claimed that, before he breathed his last, Ernesto whispered in his grandson's ear: “Never reveal the secret of the pouch”. And so the mystery persisted.
What if inside the pouch was a small wormhole leading to a parallel world? Ernesto became the “Traveller of the Pouch”.
Some believed that the pouch contained a secret formula for absolute happiness. After all, what could make you happier than a memorable fall and a viral photo?
Yes, really. Some thought Ernesto was just a hungry guy and that the baggie contained his lunch. I'll wait to read my colleagues and their visions.

Interesting story that seems fictional and comical, but I know people who have lost their lives because of their curiosity...

Pandora, with her box, would have liked this story too ... sometimes we just want to know too much!
I guess it's empty.
Really nice story @amigoponc Good thing curiosity didn't kill your character and turn him into a local legend.
