Amanda who was in her thirties started to observe some changes in her body system, she urinates frequently at night, felt extremely tired, sometimes her hands will go numb, she felt extremely thirsty, and when it got to a point her vision started to be blurry.

She managed to put a call across to her family Doctor that night, her Doctor requested she visits the hospital the next morning for a proper diagnosis.

That morning, Amanda visited the hospital, and she was diagnosed with Diabetes Mellitus!

"Doctor, I don't take too much sugar, how come?", she surprisingly asked the doctor.

" Ms. Amanda, there are different types of Diabetes Mellitus, type 1,
and type 2. (Hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia )

The first one deals with your immune system being unable to produce enough insulin. The hormones which help in producing or regulating your blood sugar are becoming weak thereby producing a very little amount of sugar in the body.

However, Ms. Amanda, you were diagnosed with Hyperglycemia, which is the opposite of hypoglycemia, which is when your blood sugar level is simply too high. Your body does not respond to insulin which is in your system or because your system does not produce insulin anymore.

sighs "So what do I do now Doctor?"

"Stop eating so late at night, sugary foods can cause diabetes however eating late at night also causes diabetes, beck other health-related conditions like obesity and cancer.

Now, Ms. Amanda, you need to reduce your sugar intake, that means eating healthy.

Eat more fiber, wheat, and veggies and lesser on carbohydrate food like starch, etc.

If you must eat rice, you should eat Basmati rice, it is very healthy and is sold in malls.

Eat wheat bread more than regular bread, eat more fish, and drink water, a lot of water as it helps to flush your system, please ensure you drink water early in the morning, especially immediately after you wake up from bed, and avoid using cubes to cook, rather use crayfish, and garlic to replace cubes. Avoid starving yourself as it can disrupt your blood sugar levels. If you must take milk, ensure it is skimmed milk, and then take cocoa tea or green tea.

Eat more fruits, however not all fruits are healthy for you, avoid fruits that are high in sugar, get sufficient sleep, and exercise regularly.

Avoid fatty foods as well that increase the cholesterol in your body. As it can also affect you.

To be safe, I recommend you buy a glucose meter to regularly check your blood sugar every day and then take medications to help you regulate them. You should do the fasting blood sugar level check, (which means checking your blood sugar level in the morning without eating or drinking water to get an accurate result), but after food, you can also do the random blood sugar test which can be done two hours after a meal. If possible ensure your blood sugar level is at 70mg/dl to 100mg/dl when doing the fasting blood sugar test.

So, Ms.Amanda, it's not just about avoiding sugary foods, it is about living a healthy lifestyle and knowing that you're not alone, you can also be happy if you learn to manage your situation, you can call on me anytime you feel bothered or have any question to ask.

If you have friends and siblings, even if they aren't diabetic please inform them to check their blood sugar level at least thrice a year to know their status. A healthy life, is a wealthy life. Doctor Jane told her giving her a pt on her back.

Ms.Amanda was given some tablets to help regulate her blood sugar level, she left the hospital feeling hopeful and determined to leave a healthy lifestyle which included a change of diet too.
