The Girl Who Dared To Dream

They say we don't always get what we want because life is life, daydreaming has been my way of getting what I want when life gets in the way.

While I was much younger I found myself smiling sheepishly whenever my favourite on-air personality voice hit the stereo.

"You such a huge fan Amie," my sister confessed when I couldn't stop telling her how much I love that particular radio station and how much I wanted being an on-air personality as a dream job.

"Sis I wish I could be an on-air personality, I love how versatile the job is, I love to express myself, I have a good communication skill and love to be heard, I am adventurous, curious, fashionable and I also love music, all of these are the descriptions of an air personality," I honestly told her what I hoped to be in the future.

"I don't need to be told, I see all of that in you and I wish you the best, don't give up on your dreams keep going when you get into the higher institution, you can now study mass communication which will pave the way for you to become an on-air personality someday," my sister kept encouraging me and that fueled the passion the more, to find someone who supported your passion and goals.

Most times I find myself recording my voice using my phone and acting like an on-air personality, "Yes yes yaw, it's your girl, Amie, holding it down on 96.9 Cool fm your number one hit music station.." I would hear my sister cheering me on "Go girl, that was lit," so I began to do it for fun, in my world of fantasy I was already an on-air personality who was very popular, I had already interviewed as many celebrities I wished, I had now made a brand for myself and kept me happy as much as I daydreamed.

Sometimes after recording myself, I send it to my friends to listen to and they all complimented my voice and I was just okay with that.

One day I was listening to my favorite station when I heard on the show that they'll be inviting their faithful fans to celebrate their 17th anniversary and all we needed was to answer the trivial questions to stand a chance of visiting the station.

"Sis, my dream is finally coming true," I rushed off to my sister and told her how badly I wanted to visit the station for the first time and so I called the station to answer the question, "You just won yourself an invite to cool fm your number one hit music station," Mannie the radio maestro excited invited me for the event.

Then I began to daydream, about how I would react when I got there, would I be allowed to speak on air? What would the event look like? I began to imagine myself in the studio already talking using the mic and doing all the stuff the radio presenters do and I deprived myself of good sleep the night before the event, I was so excited and anxious.

When I got to the station I was wowed when I came in contact with many celebrities, I took nice pictures and my dream of speaking on the air came true for just a few minutes, as I was invited into the studio with Daddy Freeze, Dotun, Mannie and had a good radio day live in the studio, I ensured my friends and family all listened to me and that was one of the biggest moments of my life.
