An Enduring love (#96 The inkwell prompt)
In a village of Ogu Kingdom. The
birds were chirping, cocks crowing, and children playing in the open air, Yomi went to visit his mom with his wife Evelyn in his hometown, he was married for over two years now but his wife hasn't yet conceived.
Yomi's mother, Ma Deja was worried she could die without carrying her grandchild, so she sent for Yomi.
"When are you going to give me my grandchild Yomi, is it until I die?".
" Mama, I want you to know that it is God that gives children, in his own time everything will be fine."
Ma Deja hated Evelyn so much, she would call her all sorts of names when her husband wasn't around, "You barren witch, you better leave my son alone, in fact, I will make sure he divorces you and marry a woman who can bear children."
Evelyn would cry her eyes out. However, she wouldn't tell Yomi about it as she doesn't want him and his mom to be at loggerheads.
She started to pray fervently that she conceived and carry a child of her own. She wanted a peaceful home and wanted her mother-in-law to be happy.
Eventually, they went back to the city, she started looking for ways to solve the problem on ground.
Yomi and Evelyn had gone to see a doctor and were told that they were both doing fine, she wasn't barren neither was he impotent.
Weeks turned to a month and nothing yet, she started to lose hope because Ma Deja was coming to the city for a holiday which would make life unbearable for her.
The day finally arrived, Ma Deja was at their door, this time with another woman, Yomi got angry, "Mama, who is this?" Pointing to an average-height woman wearing a pair of jeans and a tank top to match, "She is Sarah your new wife, of course, Yomi I want a grandchild, I'm sick and tired of this woman you call your wife who can't bear a child".
It was a tradition that the first child must have children to carry the family's name on, and if after two years, one couldn't bear a child, he would be given another woman as a wife now Yomi doesn't have a descendant to carry the family's name on. It was hellish for him as both the elders from his village and his mom would pressure him to marry a second wife.
Finally, he told his mom to give him some time to think about it.
" Dear", talking to Evelyn, "What do we do now, it's our custom and you know it, the pressure is getting so much and I can't take the heat anymore".
Evelyn with tears in her eyes, " I'm also confused and heartbroken, to think we are both fertile, and yet finding it hard to have children of our own".
"I have a plan," Yomi said to her "I will take this woman that mama brought, but trust me, I will never have anything to do with her sexually".
It was quite hard for her to believe him, but she gave him the benefit of doubt, and so Sarah was brought in.
Yomi kept to his word and never had intercourse with Sarah, She was just a figurehead in the house.
Yomi truly loved Evelyn and wanted a child from her not a random woman who was brought in, he kept hoping that one day, his dreams of having a child through Evelyn will become a reality.
After a few weeks passed, Evelyn started to throw up one morning and felt dizzy, She was rushed to the hospital, and yes! She was pregnant! Yomi was so excited that he quickly called his mom to inform her.
Ma Deja was excited as well, Sarah on the other hand wasn't comfortable being a figurehead, so she decided to pack her things and leave hoping she'll find true love someday. Evelyn was glad her husband kept his word and this in turn made her love him the more, he was someone she could count on and someone who had her back always.
9months later, Evelyn was delivered of a beautiful twin looking so much like their father Yomi, Ma Deja's dream of carrying her grandchild became a reality, she carried not just one but two at the same time, and the family lived a happy life ever after.

That's a fantastic story, the man was dedicated to his wife despite the challenges and things he had to bear with his family.
It happens like that especially in Africa, in-laws don't take delayed birth lightly. They will keep pushing the man to get another woman and your story is a perfect reflection of things happening out there.
I will love for you to go through the story again, you made a few mistakes.
Evelyn would cry her eyes out. However, she would tell Yomi about it as she doesn't want him and his mom to be at loggerheads.
I am sure you meant wouldn't here...
Oh thanks, @george-dee, I've corrected it, it was an oversight.
Thanks for reading too.
It’s difficult to be part of a culture that puts so much pressure on woman to have children. Your story demos a different dimension and gives use insight. ❤️💕❤️
Yeah,thanks for reading @itsostylish
It was a really cruel and ridiculous tradition for today. Unfortunately, there are people living like this in my country too. If you don't have children as soon as possible, there's a lot of noise about are you impotent, is there something wrong, who has a problem, why can't you have children, why haven't they had children yet.... Seeing it happening all over the world showed me how deep this instinct is. Even though your story is fiction. Nowadays, there are a lot of people who have children and jeopardize the future of the child before they have traveled for 5 years, before they have saved money, before they have settled their lives.
It's a nice touch to have children at the end.
Congratulations.
Thank you @arduilcelebren for your beautiful input.
Your story gives us insight into a culture that pressurise woman unfairly. However, everything that happens in a relationship is dependent on the personalities involved, Yomi loves his wife and it’s gratifying that he defies tradition and gives nature a chance.

This is a heartwarming and inspiring story about love, perseverance, and the importance of family. The relationship between Yomi and Evelyn is particularly touching, as they support and stand by each other even in the face of external pressure and challenges. It's clear that they are a strong and committed couple, and their determination to have a child together is admirable. The way Yomi handles the situation with his mother and Sarah is also admirable, as he is able to maintain his integrity and stay true to his feelings for Evelyn. Overall, this is a beautifully written and thought-provoking story that highlights the importance of family, love, and commitment. Well done!
Oh, thank you so much @kedi for leaving this up-building comment on my blog.
I think this is what true love entails, to be able to stand up for each other thru thick and thin.
Thank you so much 💯
Yomi and his wife Evelyn were united by a love Having confidence that he would not have relations with that woman his mother assigned him to conceive a child, when Yomi realized that Evelyn was pregnant, he immediately left that young woman and joined his wife. Have a nice evening
Hehe, it's morning from my end. Thanks for stopping by @rammargarita
