A Dress For My Client.
Ha!!! "I don't like red oh."
My client exclaimed when I showed her the only available fabric left in my store.
I had a way of convincing her that the outcome will surely wow her and so she asked me to make anything nice for her and her little brother.
I was given 6yards of African print(Ankara) and I had to look for what could spice the whole outfit.
Since she's my regular client, I know her to love a lot of details or loud styles, so I thought of this style for her.
The materials I worked with were;
Ankara
Thread
Lining
Mesh
Petal
Zipper
Buttons
I also know her to love the princess dart cut, which is why I made this cut.
I started with the upper bodice, which was a half-cut, I deducted her half-length from her full measurement, and for the princess dart, I used her bust measurement, added about a 4inches allowance, and marked out her apex, yoke, shoulder, and connected it.
For the lower bodice, I did a fitted dress cut because she has a very flat tummy, and she's very petite in stature, since the sleeve was going to be very busy, I just ensured the upper bodice was going to be less busy.
As a designer, I focus more on the neat finishing of my job because it shows how professional I am, I hate to see the inside of my outfit all dirty with threads littered here and there, so I make sure I use a matching lining to cover up my seam and make the inside look as neat as the outside, so I took a shot of the inside to show y'all how near it sits.
Moving on to the sleeve, it's quite a very busy but beautiful sleeve, it's a combination of mesh and Ankara.
After cutting my sleeve, I deducted a few inches from the upper part and replaced it with the mesh, and then after sewing it all, I did a gathered sleeve on the fitted sleeve, don't worry you'll see how it looks.
Here is the up-close shot of the gathers, I used a matching thread as well.
After I sewed the lady's outfit, I proceeded to her brother's, all I needed was just thread, buttons, and a few pieces of fabric to turn the neckline.
And then, I used the floral petal to embellish her dress, I stitched each appropriately using a hand needle to secure my stitch.
I was quite in a hurry to take the shot as I was having a low battery and the dress was to be delivered in a couple of hours.
I didn't take my time to arrange the dress beautifully, like I used to, which was why it looked a little bit rumpled, however, I ensured I gave this outfit a good press before delivering it to my client.
Here is the up-close shot of what the outfit looked like, both hers and her brother's.
At this juncture, I tried to make the waist of the outfit look tiny before taking the shot. hehe
And after delivering it, she was excited, I asked her to send me pictures of the dress when she rocks it, and she promised to.
She ended up loving the style and the fabrics she felt she wouldn't like initially.
Something about fashion design is going the extra to satisfy your client because all the hard work and effort is only a waste of time if your client isn't satisfied with your job.
I was happy she loved it.
