Hello Needle Workers.
It's a new week and as needle workers we are always excited to share our project over the weekend.
Ever thought about why they say there's no mistake in fashion? Every mistake is a work of art or another style entirely.
This has happened to me on many occasions but thankfully they were mostly my outfit. I just go with flow and the outfit ends up looking fabulous.
However, I haven't made such a mistake on a client's outfit until recently.
The lady walked in my outlet and showed me a particular style to make for her, it looked to simple, after zooming in and out, I got to work and began to cut.
The fabric I worked with is the thick crepe fabric and it is red in color, let's talk a moment to appreciate that color, it's so beautiful and stunning, no wonder Chris de burg sang "Lady in Red."
Okay, back to business, she wanted a queen Anna neckline and a very big A-line sleeve and the down of the bodice must be a fitted dress.
The material I worked with were just, zipper, 3d Flowers, the red thick crepe and a lining to make the outfit very neat.
I used her bust measurements to cut the upper bodice of this dress, the neckline was quite tricky and that was where I missed it a little.
At first I made a perfect cut of about three inches wide and 4 inches depth, adding the effects on the neckline, but after opening, I was tempted to go deeper, cause it was looking so small and tight.
You know that inner mind that asks you to add more salt to an already salty food? Ignore it, it is from the village! But look at me, I didn't ignore that inner voice telling me to go deeper with an extra two inches to make it wider on the bust area.
After going extra with the 2inches, it dawned on me that it wider than it should, so the work of looking for a solution started coming up in my head.
Firstly, I was so excited that this dress was my cousin's, so even if she got upset, she wouldn't go extra on me like an outsider, but regardless I wanted her to love her dress.
The mistake almost destabilized me cause I love my job neat and perfect , but that was a reminder that we are all imperfect no matter how much we try.
Immediately, my mind thought outside the box, to hold the excess with a back stitch after turning the lining and then attaching a button to the midpoint as a disguise.
As soon as I found a solution, I proceeded to sew all the pieces together until it became a beautiful dress.
Another challenge I had on this dress was attaching the 3D flowers to the sleeve exactly like the second sleeve, it took me an hour to achieve attaching flowers to the sleeve after I was done sewing the dress.
Let's get my cousin's reaction, when she came for fittings, she just hugged me and said, I like the button on the neckline, it's not looking so bare like the picture I sent you.
Little did she know that it was a disguise for my mistake, who will tell her now? Well, thankfully she loved it and she rocked it to the function she had in mind.
Her review? Her friend is coming to make exactly her dress in black color, her friend loved the dress so much.
This is why people say there's no mistake in fashion, so long as you're creative, a mistake can end up being a spice to the outfit and another design on its own.
All images were taken with my phone, outfit is cut and sewn by me
