Distractions

There is one of my favorite characters in the Bible. I will introduce her to you. Her name is Martha, the sister of Mary, who is not Magdalene.

She is one of my favorites because I relate to her a lot. I will share the Bible verses with you for further understanding.

Luke 10: 38-42

As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”

“Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one.[a] Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”

While Mary chose to sit on the Lord's feet to listen to His words attentively, Martha is distracted by her surroundings with worries. Instead of listening to God, we are like Martha because our ears and eyes are closed off by what we see in our problems and what we are distracted in this world.

For example, we give various reasons to our God about why we didn't attend Sunday services, or even doing your hobbies or having your own plans instead of doing your bible devotion and attending bible study groups.

What God wants for Martha is to abide with Him, and that's why He told her that her sister Mary has chosen better, to which Mary understood to prioritize and necessity of choosing to abide or having fellowship with Him.

What God wants is to have your precious time with us. It is like having a bonding time with Him since He wanted the children of God to be with Him.

Nowadays, in modern times, we are like Martha, being distracted by our worries and problems as we forget that God is in control in our lives.

Prayer:

May God forgive us for our selfish desires instead of spending time with Him, and may God forgive us for being forgetful that Christ is in control of our lives when we feel our circumstances are out of reach. May we decrease of ourselves and Christ increase within us so that we live in His glory. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

You are right, many of us today are so distracted by various things and sometimes forget to appreciate the blessings we already have. Thank you for this.

Hello there!! Are you following me?!? 😄 Thank you for choosing to use my community TAG, as one of your choices. Even cooler that your post is in the Ladies Of Hive community. That's like... double bonus points!! Kidding aside... Powerful post, for the similar times we are living in... yes? I found this information... thought it would jive with your vibe?

"The story of Mary and Martha gives more nuance to the conversation. Martha appears receptive to Jesus' message. She invites Jesus to her home, and He accepts. The issue is that her priorities are unbalanced. She gives more weight to hosting Jesus than listening to Him (Luke 10:39–40). Mary submits entirely to Jesus and His message."

bibleref.com: What does Luke 10:38 mean?

"She gives more weight to hosting Jesus than listening to Him (Luke 10:39–40). So spending more time entertaining the "idea" of God being there. Then NOT paying attention to his words right in front of her... We have this similar mindset so many times in our lives; people pretending to be something they are not. The act of them "pretending" to be your "whatever". But not really knowing anything about you... Interesting Bible Verse to share... and again, quite relevant to our times... Very nice...

Lmao. It is such a coincidence that we meet here 😂😂😂. Plus, I sincerely love your community. Hence, I tag your community. The ladies of hive and your community are kind of the same but have differences.

Actually, this is my first time posting in this community, so I just wanted it to give it a try.

Moving on~

I agreed that it is quite revelant in our Christian lives, and we live in a double standard lifestyle, but we cannot hide from Him for what we truly are. He knows if we were sincere in serving Him or not.

The story of Martha and Mary is about how to serve God.

With Martha and Mary, both of them truly loved God. Mary focused on God 100%, while Martha served Jesus 50%. I think that Martha wanted Jesus to praise her for her work or service, but her preparation occupied her.

When she complained to Him that she did all the work and Mary didn't lift a finger, Jesus gently disciplined Martha about her priorities, and He wants Martha to adapt Mary's attitude about how she should serve Him.

What God wants for us is to serve Him wholeheartedly like Mary did, and what He didn't look after is us serving two masters (Matthew 6:24) like Martha did.

That's why I love the chapter of John 15:5 as a reminder of serving Him.

“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me, you can do nothing.
