Hello all Hivians and good people of the Gems community. Most of us may not be aware of some major happenings or events around the globe that took place on this day many years ago. I will therefore take us round the globe in a giffey to have a look at some of those historical events that took place on this day, sunday the 13/10/2024 in history.

We begin today from the USA. Do you know that on this day in 1792, the cornerstone was laid for the White House, the official office and home of every United States President and First Lady since 1800 (when John and Abigail Adams moved in towards the end of his term of office).

From the USA, we move over to Chile. Do you also know that on this day in 2010, Chilean miners are rescued 69 days after their mine collapsed in Chile's Atacama Desert, to great fanfare.

From Chile, we move over to Egypt. Now, on this day in 1981, one week after Anwar Sadat's assassination, Egyptian voters approved Hosni Mubarak as the country's next President.

From Egypt, we move over to Uruguay. Do you know that on this day in 1972, a flight chartered by a Uruguayan rugby team crashed in Argentina's Andes Mountains, and the wreckage was not discovered for more than two months; the tragedy drew international attention, particularly when it was reported that the survivors had turned to cannibalism.

From Uruguay, we move over to Italy. Now, on this day in 1943, Italy declared war on Nazi Germany.

Gentlemen, we'll round off our today's look in history from the United Kingdom. Do you know that on this day in 1925, Margaret Thatcher, a British Conservative Party politician and Prime Minister from 1979 to 1990, was born in Grantham, Lincolnshire, England. Margaret Thatcher was Europe's first female Prime Minister and only British Prime Minister in the 20th century to win three consecutive terms. What a great woman she was!!!

My good people, that will be all from me today. Let's do it again tomorrow.
