Larry Is Alive February 02, 2024: I Am Alive Challenge

Hello everyone and warm welcome to my Larry hunt for friday the 2nd day of February, 2024. Hurray!!! The Super Eagles of Nigeria are now in the semi-finals of the AFCON. That's the biggest news of the day. It was a pulsating encounter with the Palancas Negras of Angola as Ademola Lookman's first-half goal was enough to help Nigeria defeat Angola and advance to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals.

Everyone thought that Nigeria had sealed the game with a second goal in the 75th-minute when Victor Osimhen headed in a goal but the video assistant referee (VAR) ruled it out for offside. So it ended (1-0) in favour of Nigeria.

Nigeria will now play the winner of Saturday's quarterfinal between Cape Verde and South Africa (20:00 GMT) in the last four next Wednesday.

Similarly, DR Congo came from behind to defeat Guinea 3-1 and secured a spot in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations semifinals. They will also face the winners of Saturday's quarter-final between Mali and hosts Ivory Coast (17:00 GMT) in the last four on Wednesday.

Larry then veers off to have a look at today in #history.

Larry begins his look at today in history from South Africa. He finds out that on this day in 1990, South African President F.W. de Klerk overturned the African National Congress' 30-year ban, freeing Nelson Mandela from prison and ushering in the end of apartheid.

From South Africa, Larry goes to Uganda. He finds out that on this day in 1971, Idi Amin declared himself President of Uganda, and for the next eight years, he led a ruthless administration.

From Uganda, Larry goes to the events of the WWII. He finds out that on this day in 1943, the Battle of Stalingrad in World War II ended with German troops surrendering to the Soviets.

From the events of the WWII, Larry goes to the world of music and entertainment. He finds out that on this day in 1977, Shakira, a Colombian musician who gained success in both Spanish and English-speaking countries, and by the early 2000s, was one of the most successful Latin American recording artists, was born in Barranquilla, Colombia.

He finds out that on this day in 1970, Bertrand Russell was a British philosopher, logician, and social reformer who founded the analytic movement in Anglo-American philosophy and received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1950, died in Penrhyndeudraeth, Merioneth.

Finally, Larry rounds off his look at today in #history from Russia. He finds out that on this day in 1907, Russian chemist Dmitri Mendeleev, who developed the periodic classification of the elements died in St. Petersburg, Russia.

Having seen all these pieces of historical events, Larry zooms off to begin his daily deliveries.
