Larry Is Alive #176 October 29, 2023: I Am Alive Challenge

Hello everyone and warm welcome to my Larry hunt for Thursday, the 29th day of October, 2023. Just two days to go for October! How time fly. It was a night to forget for Manchester United who got pumelled by their city rivals Manchester City (3-0). The match added a damper on Larry's weekend but he simply braced up himself to face his daily activities. When will United get it right? He quizzed.

After the match, Larry turns his attention to have a look at today in #history.

Larry begins his look at today in history from the Turkey. He finds out that on this day in 1923, The Republic of Turkey was founded, mostly via the efforts of Kemal Atatürk, who is regarded as the country's founder and he also served as its first President.

From Turkey, Larry goes to Sweden. He finds out that on this day in 1950, King Gustav V of Sweden, a staunch supporter of Swedish neutrality during WWII, died in Stockholm.

From Sweden, Larry goes to Egypt. He finds out that on this day in 1956, In a battle for control of the Suez Canal area, Israel's army launched an offensive on Egypt in the Sinai Peninsula.

From Egypt, Larry goes to Honduras. He finds out that on this day in 1998, Hurricane Mitch made landfall in northern Honduras; it was one of the deadliest Atlantic hurricanes on record, killing around 11,000 people in Central America.

From Honduras, Larry goes to China. He finds out that on this day in 2015, China declared the end of its one-child policy, with couples able to have two children beginning in 2016.

From China, Larry goes to Liberia. He finds out that on this day in 1938, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, née Ellen Johnson, a Liberian politician and economist who served as Liberia's president from 2006 to 2018 was born in Monrovia, Liberia. She was the first African woman to be elected head of state.

Finally, Larry rounds off his look at today in history from Germany. He finds out that on this day in 1879, Franz von Papen, German statesman and diplomat who was instrumental in the fall of the Weimar Republic and also in assisting Adolf Hitler become German chancellor in 1933, was born in Werl, Germany.

Having seen all these pieces of historical events, Larry zooms off to begin his daily deliveries.
