Larry Is Alive 14 July 2024: I Am Alive Challenge
Hello everyone and warm welcome to my Larry hunt for sunday, the 14th day of July, 2024. The Euro 2024 final is upon us gentlemen. Spain square up against England at the finals. The Three Lions are roaring to win a major trophy since 1966. They are also aiming at winning it in a foreign soil for the first time.
The Spanish team on the other hand is aiming at winning their fourth European championship. The game is poised at (0-0) 39' for now. Let's see who wins at the end of the day.
Larry then veers off to have a look at today in #history.
Larry begins his look at today in history from France. He finds out that on this day in 1789, a mob stormed the Bastille in Paris, demanding the armaments and munitions housed there. When the guards resisted, the crowd took over the jail, symbolising the end of the ancien régime.
From France, Larry goes to Iran. He finds out that on this day in 2017, Maryam Mirzakhani, the first woman and first Iranian to receive the Fields Medal for "her extraordinary contributions to the dynamics and geometry of Riemann surfaces and associated moduli spaces," died at the age of 40 in Palo Alto, California, U.S.A.
From Iran, Larry goes to the world of primates. He finds out that on this day in 1960, Jane Goodall, a British ethologist, first arrived in what became Gombe Stream National Park in Tanzania, where she did significant study on chimpanzees.
From the world of primates, Larry goes to the world of mountaineering. He finds out that on this day in 1865, Edward Whymper, a British mountaineer, became the first person to climb the Matterhorn.
From the world of mountaineering, Larry goes to Thailand. He finds out that on this day in 1897, Luang Phibunsongkhram, Thailand's Field Marshal and Premier from 1938 to 1944 and 1948 to 1957, who was involved with the rise of authoritarian military governments in Thailand was born near Bangkok, Thailand.
Finally, Larry rounds off his look at today in #history from Nigeria. He finds out that on this day in 2016, in France's third major terrorist attack in 18 months, a man drove a truck through a crowd enjoying Bastille Day in Nice, killing over 80 people and wounding hundreds more.
Having seen all these pieces of historical events, Larry zooms off to begin his daily deliveries.
