Splinterlands art contest | Astral Entity!
A new week is approaching and a new challenge for me again in this @Splinterlands art contest, a space that has helped me a lot to improve some aspects of my drawings and go a little beyond portraits, explore fantasy and magic.
And now that we talk about magic, I have been very inspired to make my version of this card that, although it is an entity, I see it as something magical because of the beautiful colors it has, to make this Fanart I read the Lore of this card and I really liked this little paragraph:
"From the shadows and the ether comes an eldritch entity known only as the Astral Entity. It is a celestial being that drifts through rifts in reality, searching for new planes and realms"
I had pending to do this card but I still did not feel ready to do this challenge, because I was afraid that the skin would not look good, when I read this paragraph, I got very excited because it is a theme that I like too much and immediately I came up with an idea that caught me, I wanted to represent this time Astral Entity in a feminine and imposing version, floating on the sea and opening a kind of portals / cracks to different worlds or dimensions, I wanted to choose a palette of cold colors for the whole scene, the only places where the tones vary are in some "dimensions".
It was a bit complicated because I was very afraid of the skin, but I liked how it turned out, I hope you like it!
I made my sketch of the whole scene that I imagined, I chose the colors, this cost me a lot, in fact I had to paint twice because I did not know whether to start with a light tone or a dark one, in the end I chose the light blue color and filled the entire silhouette, with other shades of blue I began to shape the body and face and in new layers continue painting until mixing all the shades and create a more realistic skin, I painted some parts of the body with purple and pink to give it those illuminations of color that the original card has, the hair was quite difficult to paint since I wanted to make a kind of hair that would combine with the entity effect and I felt it looked weird, but let's trust the process.
I placed a dark blue background color and then painted some clouds in the corner of the image and a kind of sea covering the feet, in the hair I added more tones making it combine a little more and having a better sense with the whole drawing, I added more pink in the skin and some shadows with dark blue, I continued painting the background creating a circle which I filled with small shadows to make it look like the moon, I also wanted to paint some raised water on the sides of the silhouette, to give a better effect to this entity, I duplicated the layer of the whole silhouette and applied a movement blur creating this kind of aura that surrounds her.
I recently discovered a brush that has a very strange texture, I don't even know how to explain it, but it leaves this effect that I placed around it that makes it look like mmm, small flames? Well, I made those figures with that brush, I liked that effect, I applied a new layer where I began to apply illuminations, making several points of light throughout the body, I painted the portals and then creating a clipping mask I began to fill it with different landscapes that give to understand that this would be other places and times, the portals of the lower part I surrounded them with water, it just occurred to me and I liked how it looked, finally I made a color and saturation adjustment, making the image look a little more saturated and with more contrast.
