Red Queen
Hello everyone.
I wanted to do a different drawing, I have been doing portraits for a long time and I left aside the full or semi full body drawings, so two nights ago I started to improvise, this time I chose a fantasy theme so I thought of doing this kind of elf, I wanted her to look bright and beautiful like a goddess, really this drawing went through many changes even in the color palette, because as I was painting I thought of new things and other color settings, I think I did the right thing because these reddish tones were perfect.
Something I love is clothes with shiny details and that's why today I wanted to make a red dress with pink sparkles and some purple ones, it looks like a dress full of small shiny stones, I'm very happy with the result, I hope you like it.
I made the sketch with the idea I had in mind, then I started to paint the skin with quite light and pale tones, for this point my idea was to paint everything in quite light and very desaturated colors, then I added another layer with more colors to shape the whole face and visible body parts, I started to mix all the colors leaving a soft and more realistic skin, I felt that the skin looked too pale for my taste and here I started to make the first change, I applied a new layer on top with the "multiply" setting and started to paint all the skin with light red, it was very nice this skin tone so I left it and continued working, this time I started to paint the dress with a dark blue, I wanted a simple blue dress but then I came up with another idea.
I painted some shadows on the dress and then painted the hair with green, at this point I didn't feel comfortable with the color combination that my drawing was taking, so I thought about exploring new options, I thought that as I had placed a reddish tone to the skin maybe the hair and dress could also be red, this was really a test but I ended up liking it a lot, then I changed the hair color to red and added some lights and shadows to give it shape, then I painted the horns in the shape of a branch coming out of her head and started to give details to the dress, which as I told you was going to be a simple blue dress but I thought about making these details of glitter and for that I took a hard brush and playing with the opacity and sizes I started to paint dot by dot, making some darker and some lighter, this was my favorite part because making so many dots despite being exhausting it is quite relaxing at the same time, after doing it, I realized that I don't like blue in combination with red so I changed the tone of the dress giving it this red color with pink and lilac sparkles so pretty, now I painted a chain that is hanging from the horns and then I added a layer of lights where I started to highlight the sparkles of the skin, eyes and dress.
I also painted a wound on the back, why? Because I was really thinking about a kind of elf that at the same time is a fallen angel, with his wings torn off haha.
For the background I placed a brown color and started painting with red and a watercolor textured brush, finally I finished my drawing editing the image adding more darkness and saturation.
