Visit to the Praglia Abbey, Teolo, Padova - Discovering Italy with alequandro!

Finally, with some free time during my holidays from work, I can talk about my visit to the Praglia Abbey in Teolo, in the province of Padua, which took place on a beautiful spring day.

Finalmente, con un po' di tempo libero durante le ferie dal lavoro, posso raccontare della mia visita all'abbazia di Praglia a Teolo, in provincia di Padova, avvenuta in una bellissima giornata di primavera.

It was a clear and sunny afternoon, the sky was blue with a few scattered clouds that seemed painted. Arriving at the abbey, I was immediately struck by its grandeur and the tranquility that the surrounding environment exuded. Located at the foot of the Euganean Hills, the abbey seemed like an oasis of peace surrounded by nature.

Era un pomeriggio sereno e soleggiato, il cielo era azzurro con qualche nuvola sparsa che sembrava dipinta. Arrivato all'abbazia, sono stato subito colpito dalla sua imponenza e dalla tranquillità che emanava l'ambiente circostante. Situata ai piedi dei Colli Euganei, l'abbazia sembrava un'oasi di pace immersa nella natura.

As soon as I entered the entrance, I perceived an atmosphere of solemnity and concentration. The ancient walls told centuries of history.

Appena varcato l'ingresso, ho percepito un'atmosfera di solennità e raccoglimento. Le mura antiche, raccontavano secoli di storia.

I began my visit with a walk in the cloister, a monk passionately told us the history of the abbey, describing an enchanting place with attention to the smallest details. The columns punctuated the sides of the cloister and supported arches that seemed to embrace the internal courtyard, where a wellhead caught the visitors' gaze.

Ho iniziato la mia visita con una passeggiata nel chiostro, un monaco ci raccontava con passione la storia dell'abbazia descrivendoci un luogo incantevole e curato nei minimi dettagli. Le colonne scandivano i lati del chiostro e reggevano arcate che sembravano abbracciare il cortile interno, dove una vera da pozzo catturava lo sguardo dei visitatori.

As I walked along the corridors of the monastery, I heard the echo of my footsteps softly echoing off the walls. Unfortunately I wasn't able to enter the library, I know it is a real jewel with shelves full of ancient manuscripts and precious volumes.

Mentre camminavo lungo i corridoi del monastero, ho sentito l'eco dei miei passi che risuonava lieve tra le pareti. Purtroppo non sono riuscito ad entrare nella biblioteca, so che è un vero gioiello con scaffali colmi di antichi manoscritti e volumi preziosi.

We walked with our gaze turned to the vaults which were embellished with beautiful depictions of saints and cherubs.

Camminavamo con lo sguardo rivolto alle volte che erano impreziosite da bellissime raffigurazioni di santi e putti.

The chapter room was also exciting to visit. We sat on the benches along the walls and silently admired that space steeped in history.

Anche la sala del capitolo è stata emozionante da visitare. Ci siamo seduti sugli scranni lungo le pareti e abbiamo ammirato in silenzio quello spazio intriso di storia.

Consider that the abbey was founded in 1080 by the Maltraverso family for the Benedictine order and was originally known by the name of Pratalia (meadows) and was for a long time fundamental for the agricultural maintenance of the Padua countryside.

Pensate che l'abbazia fu fondata nel 1080 dai Maltraverso per l'ordine benedettino ed era conosciuta originariamente con il nome di Pratalia (prati) e fu per lungo tempo fondamentale per il mantenimento agricolo della campagna padovana.

From the upper cloister you reach a panoramic terrace that overlooks a beautiful Italian-style garden and the crops that the monks take care of daily to obtain the products that they then use for sale and for their sustenance.

Dal Chiostro superiore si giunge ad una terrazza panoramica che da su un bellisimmo goiardino all'italiana e sulle coltivazioni che i monaci curano giornalmente per ricavare i prodotti che poi utilizzano per la vendita e il loro sostentamento.

One of the most evocative parts of the visit was the abbey church. The interior, sober but majestic, was a riot of silence and light. I sat on one of the benches, letting the serenity of the place pervade me. The stained glass windows created multicolored reflections on the walls, creating an almost mystical atmosphere.

Una delle parti più suggestive della visita è stata la chiesa abbaziale. L'interno, sobrio ma maestoso, era un tripudio di silenzio e luce. Mi sono seduto su una delle panche, lasciandomi pervadere dalla serenità del luogo. Le vetrate colorate creavano riflessi multicolori sulle pareti, dando vita a un'atmosfera quasi mistica.

In the outdoor garden, I allowed myself a few moments of relaxation sitting on a bench, admiring the view of the Euganean Hills. The view was breathtaking, a sea of ​​green dotted here and there with small villages and vineyards. The chirping of birds and the rustling of the wind in the trees were the only background sound, making the experience even more relaxing.

Before concluding the visit, I stopped by the abbey shop, where I purchased some products made by the monks: honey and herbal teas. Each product was a piece of that oasis of tranquility that I would take home with me.

Reflecting on my visit to Praglia Abbey, I feel that it was a moment of true spiritual and cultural enrichment. An afternoon that gave me peace and a profound feeling of well-being, an experience that, despite the delay in telling it, will always remain alive in my memory.

Nel giardino esterno, mi sono concesso qualche momento di relax seduto su una panchina, ammirando il panorama dei Colli Euganei. La vista era mozzafiato, un mare di verde punteggiato qua e là da piccoli borghi e vigneti. Il cinguettio degli uccelli e il fruscio del vento tra gli alberi erano l'unico sottofondo sonoro, rendendo l'esperienza ancora più rilassante.

Prima di concludere la visita, sono passato dal negozio dell'abbazia, dove ho acquistato alcuni prodotti realizzati dai monaci: miele e tisane naturali. Ogni prodotto era un pezzo di quell'oasi di tranquillità che avrei portato a casa con me.

Riflettendo sulla mia visita all'abbazia di Praglia, sento che è stato un momento di autentico arricchimento spirituale e culturale. Un pomeriggio che mi ha donato pace e una profonda sensazione di benessere, un'esperienza che, nonostante il ritardo nel raccontarla, rimarrà sempre viva nella mia memoria.
