Summer Walk in Padova - Discovering Italy with alequandro!

As I stepped out of my car that felt on fire, I knew that day in Padua would be a pleasant stroll through this charming Italian city. My starting point was Prato della Valle, one of the largest squares in Europe, known for its impressive elliptical shape and the splendid statues that adorn its edges.

Mentre uscivo dalla mia auto che sembrava infuocata, sapevo che quella giornata a Padova sarebbe stata una piacevole passeggiata attraverso questa affascinante città italiana. Il mio punto di partenza è stato Prato della Valle, una delle piazze più grandi d'Europa, nota per la sua impressionante forma ellittica e le splendide statue che ne adornano i bordi.

The market was underway that morning and I enjoyed seeing the countless stalls and people trying to find the right deal.

Quella mattina era in corso il mercato e mi sono divetito a vedere le innumerevoli bancarelle e le persone intente a trovare il giusto affare.

The air was saturated with the scent of blossoming flowers as I strolled along the wide avenues that led me towards the historic centre. The beauty of the lush greenery and serene canal waterways have made this city a true jewel of Northern Italy.

L'aria era satura del profumo dei fiori che sbocciano mentre passeggiavo lungo gli ampi viali che mi conducevano verso il centro storico. La bellezza della vegetazione lussureggiante e dei sereni corsi d'acqua del canale hanno reso questa città un vero gioiello del Nord Italia.

Passing in front of the majestic Basilica of Santa Giustina, I could not help but marvel at its grandeur. The imposing presence of the church, with its ornate facade and imposing dome, was a testament to the rich history that lay within the city walls.

Passando davanti alla maestosa Basilica di Santa Giustina, non ho potuto fare a meno di meravigliarmi della sua imponenza. L'imponente presenza della chiesa, con la sua facciata decorata e l'imponente cupola, era una testimonianza della ricca storia che giaceva all'interno delle mura della città.

Continuing the walk, I crossed ancient bridges that arched over the water, connecting me to the heart of Padua. The sun was now high in the sky, casting a golden glow on the historic buildings that lined the streets. Each step led me through narrow cobbled alleyways, with buildings painted in warm pastel shades, creating a picturesque scene at every turn.

Continuando la passegiata, ho attraversato antichi ponti che si inarcavano sull'acqua, collegandomi al cuore di Padova. Il sole era ormai alto nel cielo, proiettando un bagliore dorato sugli edifici storici che fiancheggiavano le strade. Ogni passo mi conduceva attraverso stretti vicoli acciottolati, con edifici dipinti in calde tonalità pastello, creando una scena pittoresca ad ogni angolo.

While walking I decided to pay a short visit to the Church of Santa Maria dei Servi.

As I entered, a sense of tranquility overtook me. The soft light added a solemn atmosphere, creating a peaceful and reverent atmosphere. The air was filled with the scent of aged wood and candles, transporting me to a different time.

Mentre camminavo ho deciso di fare una breve visita alla Chiesa di Santa Maria dei Servi.

Quando sono entrato, un senso di tranquillità mi ha travolto. La luce soffusa ha aggiunto un'atmosfera solenne, creando un'atmosfera pacifica e riverente. L'aria era piena del profumo del legno invecchiato e delle candele, trasportandomi in un tempo diverso.

Looking around, my eyes were drawn to the amazing works of art that adorned the walls, I wandered silently also enjoying the cool temperature, typical of churches.

Guardandomi intorno, i miei occhi furono attratti dalle straordinarie opere d'arte che adornavano le pareti, ho vagato silenziosamente godendo anche della temperatura fresca, tipica delle chiese.

My summer walk continued towards the heart of Padua, and I found myself at the renowned University of Padua, one of the oldest universities in the world. The sense of knowledge and history that pervaded the surroundings added an aura of intellectual curiosity to the city.

La mia passeggiata estiva è proseguita verso il cuore di Padova, e mi sono ritrovata alla rinomata Università di Padova, una delle università più antiche del mondo. Il senso della conoscenza e della storia che pervadeva i dintorni aggiungeva alla città un'aura di curiosità intellettuale.

Nearby, the iconic Palazzo della Ragione stood tall, showcasing its stunning medieval architecture. The arcaded loggia is beautiful, it borders the square on one side with an elegant and harmonious rhythm.

Nelle vicinanze, l'iconico Palazzo della Ragione si ergeva alto, mostrando la sua straordinaria architettura medievale. La loggia ad arcate è bellissima, delimita da un lato la piazza con un ritmo elegante e armonioso.

When I reached Piazza delle Erbe, the atmosphere was teeming with life. Here, locals and tourists alike gathered to indulge in the daily market, where the stalls were adorned with colorful fruits, fresh vegetables and local delicacies. The vibrant energy of the square was infectious and I couldn't resist trying some freshly picked cherries which proved to be the perfect summer treat.

Quando raggiunsi Piazza delle Erbe, l'atmosfera brulicava di vita. Qui, gente del posto e turisti si riunivano per dedicarsi al mercato quotidiano, dove le bancarelle erano adornate con frutta colorata, verdure fresche e prelibatezze locali. L'energia vibrante della piazza era contagiosa e non ho resistito a provare alcune ciliegie appena raccolte che si sono rivelate la perfetta delizia estiva.

Going in search of a restaurant to eat, I stumbled upon the Parish Church of San Nicolò. This beautiful church is very simple but at the same time it is well proportioned and instills a sense of welcome and warmth.

I took a moment to sit in one of the pews, letting the serenity of the church envelop me. The silence seemed to invite introspection and contemplation, and I found myself immersed in a moment of quiet reflection.

After a while, hunger made itself felt again so I took advantage of the parish priest present to ask him for advice on where to have lunch.

He gave me good advice!

Andando in cerca di un ristorante dove mangiare sono incappato nella Chiesa Parrocchiale di San Nicolò. Questa bellissima chiesa è molto semplice ma allo stesso tempo è ben proporzionata e infonde un senso di accoglienza e calore.

Mi sono preso un momento per sedermi su uno dei banchi, lasciandomi avvolgere dalla serenità della chiesa. Il silenzio sembrava invitare all'introspezione e alla contemplazione, e mi ritrovai immerso in un momento di quieta riflessione.

Dopo poco la fame si è fatta risentire così ho approffittato del parroco presente per chiedergli un consiglio su dove pranzare.

Mi ha dato un buon consiglio!

After leaving the church, my only goal was to find the restaurant that had been recommended to me, but I was so fascinated by that ancient area of Padua that on occasion I stopped to take pictures.

Uscito dalla chiesa avevo l'unico obiettivo di trovare il ristorante che mi era stato consigliato ma ero talmente affascinato da quella zona antica di Padova che in qualche occasione mi sono fermato a fare foto.

The walk in Padua didn't end here, I still had the afternoon to experience this beautiful city.
