She Promised

She promised that we would be together, but she lied, and I'm not sure I believe her anymore. I don't think she's a bad person, but then again, she did steal my heart.
I've been trying to make things right with her, to get back on the right track with her. But she keeps pushing me away. She won't let me in. And I can't make her see how much she means to me.

"I need to get back to work," I said. "I'm sure you'll be able to come home when you need to."
She nodded. I took her hand again and squeezed it gently.
I left the house and drove away. I couldn't help but wonder what was going through her head as I kissed her goodbye. Was she angry with me? Or was she thinking about me and trying to figure out what to do?
