Esposende City On wheels :) | Portugal

Hello Everyone :)

The purpose of this trip was just one! (not really) ;P to take my daughter to a flat place with access and appropriate conditions to test the new inline skates :)

A place known for its long, flat waterfront and a good cycle path quickly came to mind, where not only cyclists pedal, but also everything that has wheels and is moved by the power of the legs, or even arms, as in the case of skates, skateboards, etc.

Civility allows everyone to circulate from one side to the other without getting in the way.
We left right after lunch and with our digestion done, towards the city of Esposende further north of where we live.
The path is well done either by the national road or the motorway, but we chose to take the motorway to save some time that would be used on site.
Arriving there and still looking for a place to park, it was immediately possible to identify the course of an event that we would come to see at the end of the day, it was a bicycle cross country, whose starting point was marked by huge inflatables in the form of an archway, mounted on the edge.

In this place considered a privilege of nature, these types of events are recurrent and quite popular, thus attracting many fans of this type of activities and sports.
Esposende is also outstanding for its geography, a plain with 16 km of Atlantic coast, crossed by several water lines that end up meeting the ocean, such as the Cávado River and the Neiva River.
As on practically the entire Portuguese coast, the beaches there are also a meeting point for bathers and not only, it is possible to see in the distance along the various beaches all the fishing rods with the lines extended to deeper waters.

After having a coffee on one of the different terraces of the establishments that exist there, my daughter put on her skates and we hit the “rink”, she trying to pick up pace, initially still holding onto the handrails and we walking beside her at a leisurely, relaxed pace.
The walk was made between brief stops to make some records and continuous moral support to the skating practitioner, who, a few moments later already felt more confident and challenging.
We passed through a small park next to the former Estação de Socorros a Náufragos (Rescue Station for Castaways) from Esposende, where a small playground in the shape of a Ship was installed, the main attraction for children in that place, but in the park it was also possible to find people sitting on benches facing the Cávado River reading a book or simply relaxing.

I couldn't pass by without making a small detour and taking some pictures of that historic building in the region that played a very important role in many lives that were saved with rescue missions that had that same building as their starting point.
What started out as an old wooden shed built in 1876, known as the House of Lifeguards, would later be renovated and inaugurated in 1906 as the Rescue Station for Castaways and recently, in 2012, underwent a new restoration and there installed the Maritime Museum.
While i positioned myself to take some photos, the little girl didn't retract and continued her ride on wheels, so i had to hurry to keep up with the pace.

The next stop was a little further on at the avifauna observatory at the mouth of the river Cávado, positioned alongside the river, facing a small beach that separates it from the waters of the ocean and where it was possible to see a group of fishermen installed there, i believe that strategically, with all the equipment assembled and operational.
It was in this place that i captured some of the most interesting records with regard to the visual composition, with a small boat stranded on a small sandy beach at the mouth of the river, pointing towards the end of the sand which includes the famous and popular beach of Ofir.

Before returning to the starting point, towards the end of the afternoon, we made a last leap to the Fort of São João Baptista, also known as Fort of Esposende, a fortification built between 1699 and 1704 and that over the years underwent some changes in its structural base, having started with an irregular star shape and ended up with a rectangular shape after the construction of the lighthouse with a cylindrical iron tower.

It is a building that gives an interesting image on any coast, and especially in that location, presenting an interesting contrast with the more recent architecture that surrounds it.
From there, the return was made to the starting point just in time to see all the participants of that bicycle cross country that i mentioned at the beginning of the article arrive, a varied group of participants, from elderly people to children, families, individuals, groups of friends, all participated.

It was a pleasant afternoon and the skates fulfilled their purpose, in the end, pain in the legs, typical of those who need to do a little more sport, if you consider it :)

That's all for today, i hope you enjoyed

Exploring on wheels in general gives a different feeling and perspective over everything. I remember about my journeys on my MTB which make me see everything more in depth than I'd usually do. Great trip :)
