And Then: It's Showtime! Thoughts and Impressions From Our First Event in 2 1/2 Years

For me, part of the fun of doing "outside" art events is that you have this period of working and working and working... and then it's suddenly SHOWTIME!

Getting set up...

In-person shows are great because you get to experience — in this case, in a weekend — as much interaction and feedback (and sales!) in a very short time as you very gradually get to experience over months of social media and online sales.

There is a lot of value in talking to people directly, and to watch them "interact" with your work.

Impressions of the weekend — so far — is that attendance has been extremely scant, leaving us with periods of feeling like the vendors were essentially "playing to an empty house." And that's never fun.

Friday morning, mind you, started with grimy dark gray drizzle which is never a good thing when people are expecting summer outside! The weather this year has just been way off the norm... July around here is typically sunny and bone dry. It did clear up by early afternoon, however.

The doors have opened, but attendance is thin...

Saturday was much nicer — at least weather wise — but attendance continued to be extremely (alarmingly) thin, and it's really hard to sell much when there are no people to sell to. Of course, Saturdays in the summer — around here — tend to be a bit sketchy in the sense that we have a large farmers market on Saturdays that typically includes a significant arts and crafts area... so there's competition for the "Arts and Crafts Dollar."

But those are just excuses and rationalizations!

Thankfully, the limited number of people that did come through were generally quite positive, and we have certainly made some decent sales, in relation to what we had to work with.

In a sense it's not so bad... given that we are also somewhat out of practice, in terms of being show participants... Covid really threw all that for a loop.

On the whole, I have to admit that I have somewhat missed attending shows as a vendor... so hopefully we'll be able to go to other/more events in the not to distant future... fresh outbreaks of new strains of Covid, notwithstanding!

A full "post game analysis and commentary" to follow... for now, I am too tired to cover that!

Thanks for stopping by! Do leave me a comment if you feel so inspired — interaction and engagement are always welcome!
