Is it our right to stay updated?
Hello everyone
I hope you all are doing fine. The country where i am residing currently and where i was born is named Pakistan. There was a recent crackdown of social media in my country to stop people from staying updated about the news of a politician who is favoured by the majority of population. This was the act of government and what people did was connecting to a secure vpn connection not everyone did it for the cause that they wanted to stay updated about the politician but some of them needed it for other purposes too.

Going through the first edition of this week by HL i found a little similarity in the situation i faced and that topic. Now if someone critical mind is reading it he may have got an idea what i am going to write further.
Corrupt media
It isn't necessary that you always listen to what is true on social media. Sometimes it is like you only listen to what government officials really want us to listen. It is always said that social media is the voice of our country but they always get paid by the government officials and actually they are the voice of those corrupts.
I was recently going through a series of public suggestion where they were saying that we have reduced listening to media channels or reading news papers because there is always bad news. They haven't read any good thing in the news for months. Even the Facebook and Instagram pages are filled with fake and bad news nowadays.
Good or bad?

It is always good to stay updated about the country situation so that you can make your passport ready to fly abroad. A citizen has the right to stay updated but it isn't always necessary. There are different types of citizens, some of them are having a enthusiastic, some are coward, so not everyone wants every news. Like there was a news of a bomb blast where many died, this isn't a news for people with weak hearts. They will only get themselves worried listening to such pieces of news.
The country situation matters a lot, there are peaceful countries on earth where the newspaper and news channels do not spread hate, violence, false news 24/7. So i can say that this opinion varies from country to country if the citizen should be aware of what's happening or not.
My opinion

I am a kind of person who is always stick to news channels because i am preparing for an exam where the current affairs are of most importance in our country. Otherwise i must have ignored the news channels because i do not have any concern with them. I have fulfilled my duty, i have paid tax, i have my CNIC with me, so this is what a simple citizen has to do. The control in the city or in the country isn't my responsibility, if the officials are not performing their duties then i am not going to hurt myself listening to those bad news which is due to fault of someone else.
There is always a lion and a hunter too. We simple citizens can't account those officials for their doings but the hunters above them can. If they aren't accounting them then we shouldn't also pay heed towards them. Just stay away from these matters and live a peaceful life because you will live only once and don't waste it in these matters which will never resolve.
Conclusion
General news a bit of necessary but not every news is going to be good for you and your health. So staying away and doing what is most important to you is what i suggest. Because there have been cases where people involve themselves forcefully in the matters where they really aren't needed and end up giving their lives away. Even the headlines about them are like
Unknown persons shot xyz at the spot
So it is now your choice to live a peaceful life or get stick to news and involve yourselves in official matters without any case
Well, that's all from my side.
GOODLUCK AND BEST WISHES 👌
I perfectly understand with your point here, but looking at this from another perspective, it is also important that citizens are aware inorder to stay away from certain locations which isn't safe at that moment
Really, the importance of information to the citizens cannot be overstated. As much as not every information should be released to the citizens, vital ones shouldn't be taken away from them
!PIZZA
Yeah but does this count the citizens who aren't ready for that information? Like there are people who lose their senses after listening to the news of a bomb blast...

Here in Argentina it used to happen and still happens, the media receive money from the government or a province to speak well of them or avoid issues that may harm them, in recent months this fact has improved a lot and it is noticeable how the media that received that money began to lay off employees or to spend more advertising to cover their costs.
That's a common story from all the countries I think, the media is independent only by name.
