Accommodating Hundreds of Traders, Kebumen Morning People's Market Officially Operates
Kebumen Regent Arif Sugiyanto said that the market was built to facilitate traders in the yard of Tumenggungan Market, so that they can have a comfortable and safe place to sell.
"We are grateful that what has been hoped for by traders to have a decent market can be realized. We named it the Morning People's Market, according to the nomenclature of the Ministry of Trade that what the government is building is a People's Market," he said.
The Regent said that the market, which was built with a budget allocation from the Ministry of Trade of IDR 2.6 billion, has an area of 18 x 70 meters.
As a morning market, he added, traders are only allowed to sell from early morning until 08.00 WIB.
"The most important thing about this development is that traders are no longer exposed to rain and heat, especially entering the rainy season. Around the market we have built drainage so that water flows directly into the gutter, no flooding," he said.
According to him, there are still many traders who sell outside buildings, including on shop verandas. Therefore, the market will be expanded to accommodate more traders.
"In the future, we will expand it again, we will arrange the shophouses in Stanplat Colt again, so that it is more spacious, the face of the market can also be seen from the outside, then we will add a little garden to make it look aesthetic," he explained.
The Regent also said that all traders who occupy the new market will not be charged a stall fee.
"So this is free, there is no rent or payment for stalls, only a cleaning fee," he said.
One of the market traders, Ngasarotun, is grateful for the operation of the Kebumen Morning People's Market.
"Alhamdulillah, a nice place has been made, not too hot, not too rainy. Hopefully in the future it will not be moved again. It's already here, if there is something lacking, it is enough to be arranged and repaired," he said.
Meanwhile, one of the vegetable traders in the market, Riswanto, hopes that the market can be expanded again, especially since currently each trader's stall is relatively narrow, which is only one square meter.
"If it's not that much (one meter), maybe not all traders can enter. There are still many who sell outside. So, we understand, because it's like this, we are grateful. In the future, it can be expanded again, so that those who sell outside also have a place," he said.
