Bag Yam Farming, Bamboo And Rope Guide
It's very important to keep an eye with a yam we planted using a bag. This is to help us know when something is wrong so we can actually cover the gap. After planting a yam using an empty bag, some of the yam may not grow due to the yam planted may have decayed or spoiled before we planted it. It's also very important to monitor every yam farm farmed using a bag so that when the yam start to germinate or shootout we'll add protection like rope, woods to it to help the leaves safe.
When a yam is planted and given the usual periods to germinate. The shooting is supposed to be allowed for at least two weeks to allow it grow a little big before a protection or guide will be applied.
What I mean by protecting a yam shooting are those methods we apply to the leaves or stem of a yam so that it'll not coil each other. Actually it's very important for a farmer to carry out such functions because it'll help the yam stems not to coil each other. It'll also not allow the yam stems not to cover the whole farmland from the land. A yam shoot is important to me guided because if they fall on their own inside the farmland without a guide they may fall inside water which will affect them by making them to decay and die. If they die, the yam planted is also dead.
For yam planted using a bag to grow and produce a very big yam, it's important to guide the shoot very well. To do this I made use of a bamboo and a rope. The bamboo was gotten from the bush free of charge why I bought the rope from the market using money.
The bamboo is supposed to be the one that can easily enter the ground of the farmland. So what a farmer we do now is to plant the bamboo inside the ground of the yam bag farm. The planting is just within the period the yam planted will be harvested.
After planting the bamboo on the yam farm ground, the rope will be fixed. To fix the rope, it has to cover all the areas where the yam bag are kept. We'll tie the rope from one bamboo to the other and from the other bamboo to the other. The rope will have to go double, straight, cross, zigzag, and all forms just to cover the whole yam bag farm.
After we have fixed the bamboo and rope we'll have to use our hand to fix the yam shoot to the rope. The yam shoot will have to continue to coil o the rope to the time it'll be harvested. Some may fall off from the rope which we'll have to fix back.
You have taking care of your sack yams. I think I have abandon my own even though it has produced well.
