BATTLE MAGE SECRETS Weekly Challenge Featuring Holy Protection By affliction

Hello Fellow Hivers!
Hope everyone is doing well and enjoying your weekend as we are looking at a decent stable price for Hive and the overall crypto market.
Like most weekends I am here with a splinterlands post and this week our post is featuring a battle on the ruleset Holy Protection
If you are not sure what Splinterlands is, make sure to give this articles a read and at the end you will find some information to get started with the game.
ABOUT THE RULE SET:
All Monsters have the Divine Shield ability.
The defensive stats of splinterlands monsters are of two types
- Armor: Armor is basically defensive stat that protects monsters against all sort of physical attacks like melee and ranged and if the monster has Void Armor ability, it protects against magic damage as well.
- HP: HP on the other hand is the most critical defensive ability that keeps the monsters alive until the HP goes to 0.
Now, often we see monsters with damage over time debuffs with abilities like Poison and rulesets like Noxious Fumes and Earthquake that make it even harder for the monsters to survive unless the monsters have proper counters like Immunity and Flying respectively.
To make things interesting, we have another form of defensive ability to protect against physical form of attacks, Divine Shield which is not very common ability but was made famous by the Dice summoner Lorna Shine.
And, we get a taste of this ability irrespective of the fact whether we own a monster with that ability of not curtsy of our this week's featured ruleset Holy Protection that gives all the monsters from both teams the Divine Shield ability.
BATTLE RULES :
- Mana Cap : 51
- Rule sets :
Noxious Fumes: All Monsters start the battle Poisoned.
Holy Protection: All Monsters have the Divine Shield ability.
Fire & Regret: All Monsters have the Return Fire ability.
- Available Splinters :
Fire
Water
Earth
Life
Death
THE LINE UP :
Position | Card | Mana | Level | Description |
---|---|---|---|---|
Summoner | 4 | 6 | Our choice of summoner for the battle was a level 6 Thaddius Brood that is one of the best magic counter summoners available in the game inflicting the opponent line up with -1 to Magic damage and -1 to hp. Death is often my go to summoner with Noxious Fumes. | |
Position 1 | 6 | 8 | In the first position of our line up, we are playing one of the most trolled reward cards from the Chaos Legion set, Gargoya Lion. The main reason I am playing the card is because most likely we will be facing melee and magic attackers since Fire & Regret is one of the rulesets of the battle. The level 8 version of Gargoya Lion's 3 melee damage wth 3 speed, 3 armor and 6 hp combined with Flying and Void makes it a solid tank in this context. | |
Position 2 | 8 | 3 | In the second position, we are playing a level 3 Harklaw, the reward card with 2 melee damage, 2 speed, 3 armor and 9 hp. The card also has Shield Demoralize and most importantly Immunity that goes perfectly against Noxious Fumes, hence it uses the Holy Protection ruleset at highest potential as the card does not take any damage from Noxious Fumes and gets that all important extra protection against damage from monsters. | |
Position 3 | 9 | 3 | In the third position, we are playing a level 3 Djinn Muirat with 3 magic damage, 2 speed, 4 armor and 8 hp along with very strong abilities like Void Armor Knock Out Giant Killer and Magic Reflect. This is one of the best magic counters from the Chaos Legion set. | |
Position 4 | 4 | 6 | In the fourth position, we have placed a level 6 Venari Bonesmith, the Chaos Legion reward card with 2 magic damage, 4 speed and 4 hp along with Life Leech and Poison abilities which are not the best considering the ruleset but will get the job done. | |
Position 5 | 5 | 8 | In the fifth spot of our line up, we are playing a level 8 Silent Sha-vi with 3 melee damage, 6 speed and 7 hp as base stats along with strong abilities like Sneak and Cripple. Cripple in particular can be very strong with Noxious Fumes and Divine Shield. | |
Position 6 | 6 | 5 | In the last spot we are playing a level 5 Cursed Windeku, the 6 mana tank with 3 melee damage, 3 speed and 10 hp combined with super useful abilities like Thorns and Heal making it a great Sneak protector. |
THE OPPONENT LINE UP :
Position | Card | Mana | Level | Description |
---|---|---|---|---|
Summoner | 4 | 4 | For this battle, the opponent chose to play a level 4 Kelya Frendul with +1 armor and +1 speed. Kelya has proven to be one of the most reliable summoners from the Chaos Legion edition and very widely used in both formats throughout all leagues in the game and with the wide range of strong monsters from the water splinter even a level 4 Kelya can be dangerous`. | |
Position 1 | 4 | 8 | At the first position, the opponent is also playing a level 4 Diemonshark with 3 melee damage, 4 speed, 6 armor and 8 hp combined with Trample and Enrage making it one of the better offensive tanks in game. | |
Position 2 | 6 | 1 | In the second position, the opponent decided to play a level 1 Baakjira, a card with no attack but has solid defensive presence with 11 hp and Void and Slow abilities. | |
Position 3 | 2 | 8 | In the third position of the line up, we are facing a level 2 Djinn Oshannus with 2 magic damage, 5 speed and 11 hp. The card also has very dominating abilities like Void Phase, making it one of the best well-rounded card. | |
Position 4 | 6 | 2 | In the fourth spot of the line up, we are facing one of the new neutral soulbound cards, a level 1 Venari Marksrat with 1 archery damage, 1 speed and 2 hp. Though the card seems weak, it comes with Martyr that will buff up the stats of the Djinn Oshannus and the card in the 5th spot when killed. | |
Position 5 | 1 | 11 | In the fifth position of the line up, we are facing a level 1 Runemancer Kye with 2 magic damage, 3 speed, 5 armor and 8 hp combined with Flying and Life Leech abilities making it a very strong card. | |
Position 6 | 1 | 9 | In the last position of the line up, the opponent is playing yet another high magic damage dealer, a level 1 Nerissa Tridawn with 3 magic damage, 2 speed and 9 hp. |
THE HIGHLIGHTS :
- Round 1:
In the first round, there were no causalities from either teams and the battle seemed evenly poised.
- Round 2:
In the second round, our Venari Bonesmith drew the first blood as it eliminated the Diemonshark from the opponent's first position which happens to be the only elimination of the round.
- Round 3:
Round three starts off with a double elimination curtsy of Poison damage from Noxious Fumes in the form of the Venari Marksrat from the opponent line up and our Gargoya Lion from the front position. Later, in the round, our Silent Sha-vi bags it's first kill as it eliminates the Nerissa Tridawn from the back-line.
- Round 4:
Like the previous, the fourth round too starts off with a double elimination and this time Baakjira has the victim from the opponent and Venari Bonesmith was the victim from our team.
- Round 5:
There was a drastic turn around at the start of the fifth round as both Djinn Muirat and Silent Sha-vi from our team fell victim to the Poison damage from Noxious Fumes and both teams were down to 2 monsters each.
And the situation got even worse for us later in the round when Runemancer Kye got the better of our Harklaw and we were down to only one monster which happens to be Cursed Windeku.
- Round 6:
In the sixth round there were no casualty as our Cursed Windeku bravely took on both Djinn Oshannus and Runemancer Kye and survives Poison damage from Noxious Fumes too with it's Heal.
- Round 7:
Round seven starts off with the Poison damage from Noxious Fumes and it wipes out both Djinn Oshannus and Runemancer Kye as our Cursed Windeku still stood strong and took us to victory.

STRATEGY:
Our strategy for the battle was to counter rely heavily on Harklaw with it's Immunity and Cursed Windeku with Heal as our focus was to outlast the opponent team falling victim to the Noxious Fumes and judging by how the battle turned out to be, we must admit our strategy worked out perfectly.
IMPACT OF THE RULESET IN THE BATTLE:
Though Holy Protection is a very strong ruleset like we discussed earlier, the Noxious Fumes aruleset proved out to be the most impactful ruleset of the battle and decided the course of the outcome of the battle.
MVP:
Card | Kills | Contribution |
---|---|---|
0 | The MVP of the battle has to be without a doubt our Cursed Windkeu for displaying amazing resilience and outlasting all monsters. Even though it does not have any major offensive contribution, the notable defensive performance alone got us the win in the battle and became the star of the match. |
