Phillies lose Game 1 of NLDS despite excellent pitching from Zack Wheeler
Feelings after Game 1:
Baseball can be beautiful and it can be cruel. After 162 games, the Phillies are now two losses away from elimination thanks to their loss earlier. I suppose it's better than not making the playoffs at all but man, something about that feels awful.
It's the playoffs of course. I guess I should not realistically expect the Phillies to just sweep every team they face in the post season.
The Phillies started off fairly strong. Kyle Schwarber hit ANOTHER lead off home run. The guy is clutch.
But of course that was just a solo shot. I knew in my heart that the Phillies were going to need more runs than that, the runs just never came.
The Phils led 1-0 for SEVEN innings thanks to Zack freaking Wheeler. But as soon as we took him out BANG. The Mets go off.
The Mets are sizzling hot right now. They did not even have a proper starter, they had a bullpen game and the Phillies still could not get it done. YIKES.
Maybe this was a punch in the mouth they needed. Off for a few days, now they get hit with a reality check. I hope!! My gosh. Stinks the boys could not take advantage of Wheeler's performance.
This one stings for sure. I will say this, if the Phillies get past the Mets, they will be locked in. The Mets are on fire and if the Phillies can overcome this early hole, that would be epic.
Just one game. Maybe I should not panic. But SHEESH. Life comes at ya fast!!
How bad do the Phillies want this? That is really the question.
Cristopher Sanchez on the hill tomorrow. I guess we want to save Nola for the first game on the road and of course in case we lose again....
Whew. Playoff baseball. Intense as it gets.
We need the bats to wake up!!! Bullpen needs to not be terrible. Come on fellas, remind the Mets who the real NL East Champs are!!!
Game Two tomorrow. LOCK IN FELLAS!
