Facts You Don't Know About Depression(Part 1)

The rate of depression is increasing daily in our environment. In this write-up, I want to discuss depression and its causes.
I will write about the symptoms and solutions in my next post, please follow up.

What Is Depression?

Depression also known as 'Nervous Breakdown 'is a widespread mental condition that seriously interferes with daily life through its mood disorders.
A negative outlook on the world and oneself results from being depressed. It has a major negative effect on daily life (sleep loss, alterations in appetite and sexual desire, loss of intellectual function, and loneliness)

What Causes Depression?

Source

Even though the precise causes of depression are unknown, many factors are known to contribute to the condition. The following is discussed below:

Events In Life

✳ Inconsistent parent-child connections, sexual trauma, challenging situations, etc.

✳ Loss of a close relative. A psychological response to the loss of a loved one is the condition of sadness.
However, a true deep depression, which is defined by prolonged low mood, can worsen this painful reaction.

✳ loss of employment

✳ Conflict in the home or at work

✳ Break-up( This is very common among the youths, in my country, if there is a break-up between lovers we call it 'Breakfast'.
So whenever you hear this 'term' you would have known there is a break up between lovers. Many people have been depressed about this particular case, they have been nearly broken and they can't cope with it.

✳ Chronic sickness, a disability, alcoholism, tobacco addiction, or dependence on other medications used to treat anxiety are all risk factors for the development of depression.

Genetic Background

A person's lifetime risk of depression is increased by two to four times if their parent suffers from the condition. This tendency has been linked to specific genetic variants.

The majority of the time, nevertheless, this tendency only manifests itself amid a challenging experience—abandonment, violence, sexual abuse, etc.—or unfavourable environmental variables. Understanding how depression arises depends on how genes and the environment interact.

Neurobiological components

The brain's functionality is affected when someone has a depressive condition.
Neurotransmitters have irregularities in the way they are made and regulated.
Prolonged stress changes the nervous system's physiological reactions.

Depression cannot be conquered overnight. But if anything can be adjusted to the circumstance, that would be preferable because failing to do so would subject you to prolonged emotional trauma.

Thank you all for reading, please stay tuned for PART 2

Wow, this is indeed a great pieces which as actually said it all.

It's actually not easy to get away from depression most especially when it comes in respect something really important to one life.

The best and only option is to keep being you and do whatever that makes you happy consistently. Stay away from anything that can give you a negative vibes.

But in all, may God see us through and strengthen us the more.

Thank you for this contribution, depression kills faster than we thought, and we need to do more sensitisation about it, to help a lot of people.

Depression is a mental state that kill the body and mind, as a matter of fact the body immune system is weaker in a depressed state. Awareness on depression can never be too much.

hi @actordontee I dropped in from Dreemport this evening... this looks like an interesting part-one article. I am curious as to the source of your data/info eg: where did you get the stats on the increased risk of depression through genetics?... and where did you obtain the info on the neurobiological components which you touch upon briefly and on which I would've loved to have seen more detail?

Thank you for stopping by, the source came from my journal which I wrote it in a session a few months ago, that Dr Max presented at a health summit.

Thanks... I haven't heard of Dr. Max. For the purpose of article writing, it is always best practice to cite your sources and link to the source data wherever possible. When statistics are quoted, it is clear that unless you have conducted your own personal studies, the information came from someone else and that person/organisation should be credited as the source of the data/information. This allows the reader to review and avoids any risk of your work being considered as respinning or plagiarism as sources are transparently linked and the reader can see clearly which parts are extracts from somebody else's articles/work/research and which are your own. Perhaps you could use source links in your part 2 to differentiate between Dr Max's work and your own thoughts and views on the subject matter?
